pinehart Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Can anyone tell me the difference between the 78 and the 87. I have looked up the specs and they both read the same. Any info appreciated
diesel Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 The 78 is the newer version of the DMR-EX77. The 77 is a DVD recorder which has 160 GB HDD with single tuner SD DVB tuner, usb, and DivX support. The 78 is pretty much an updated version but the HDD is increased to 250GB and it adds music jukebox abilities from memory. The 87 has been replaced by the DMR-EX88. The HDD has increased from 250GB to 40GB, it adds music jukebox and has an SD card reader over the 78. The 77/87 are about 18 months old and the 78/88 are about 6 months old

Have downloaded the operating instructions, and I guess the only downside is that it will only play region 4's. Also noted that it says that satellite TV ( ie Austar) will not copy. Will the analogue tuner be able to tune the analogue sat tv???
diesel Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 All recent panasonic DVDRs are multi region capable out of the box. Pana Australia apparently applies the FW change before distributing. Only issue for the older EX77 was that if you had timers set, you couldn't watch an NTSC DVD. Not sure about Austar, but i don't think the analogue tuner picks up any sat TV
