I have a fair few recordings on various brands on DVD+R's, DVD-R's and DVD+RW's. (Home Movies, Backups, etc...)

About 80% of all my DVD-R's are unplayable, halt, jump forward on the Sony BDP-S550, but work fine on every other DVD player we have. (Including my $29 Aldi Special)

Thinking the problem was restricted to one "no-name" brand of DVD's I bought a few years back, I went out and got a new spindle of 50 Sony AcuCORE DVD-R's (16x) this week and burnt a number of DVD's with different content and at different speeds.

Regretfully, all of these also have problems. Generally speaking the Sony plays them, but the image/sound hlts/splutters/jumps every 20 seconds or so.

I would have thoght that a Sony Player could at least play Sony Branded DVD-R's !!!!!!!

Have any of you new S550 (or S350) owners seen such behaviour?????

If the playing of recorded media is part of the specs, then you either have a dud unit in which case you should go for a replacement or its selective in its playing of media in which case it may be not fit for purpose in your case and you could get a refund.
