pgdownload Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 As long as you want a cable under about 4 metres then just about any HDMI cable will provide an identical image. As with anything don't go the absolute cheapest but $25 or so is plenty on a short cable. Regards Peter Gillespie
Hambo2000 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I would also look for a cable that's HDMI v1.3a compatible - especially if you have v1.3 BD player and TV.
Rambler Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 hi, I just thought I'd mention that the Teds online store (link) have the 1.5m Panasonic (link) v1.3a cable for $29.95. You can order it and arrange to pick it up at a Teds store, or pay for delivery. I ordered one and the delivery was $10, so all up it was $39.95 for a Panasonic HDMI cable.
cowabungadude Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 but you get better quality with a "Monster" cable
KAR Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 but you get better quality with a "Monster" cable Rubbish...Its digital and any cable will do over a short distance.

Thanks that looks like a good deal would have been good for my Pana bd35 but i had just ordered a hdmi cable from foxtail just before I read your post
nafem Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 i use a 12.5mtr cable from EZYHD works perfect for me. i run 1.3. cheers
jutta Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Thanks that looks like a good deal would have been good for my Pana bd35 but i had just ordered a hdmi cable from foxtail just before I read your post You would have spent twice as much as you needed to if you bought that Panasonic cable and it would not have been as solidly built as foxy's I was about to write "molded panasonic crap" then I remembered I'm waiting on a BD35
Aussman Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 just got the hdmi cable from foxy - great quality good quality picture Very happy with connection from my bd35 to lcd thanks foxy rapid delivery too

scottrichardson Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 hey... Call me ignorant. But... isn't it 100% DIGITAL data going across the cable on a HDMI cable? If so.... how does one cable actually benefit you over another? It's data. 0's and 1's. You're either gonna get the data, or you're not. You're not gonna get a bunch of polished 0's and 1's from one cable and a bunch of dirty ones from another. The only thing I can see happening is some of those 0's and 1's don't make it at all, resulting in loss of signal. There's guys spending $100's on monster cables - they really need to spend a couple days reading up on how signals are transferred. The AV cable market is one of the biggest sources of profit out there! Any experts out there I would love to hear your thoughts? Scottie
cowabungadude Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 i think you missed the point of this thread mate, people don't need to pay top-dollar for cables, thats the opinion as a whole here. the differences are more in construction then data quality, and a $15-30 cable works fine, nobody here disagrees with that

The AV cable market is one of the biggest sources of profit out there! ScottieThat's what all the above posters essentially said. You are quite correct that all HDMI cables are basically identical under 5m. Over 5 metres you can start getting sparklies on screen (where 1's and 0s get dropped) and quality of material and construction can dictate that a sightly better cable is needed to avoid this affect. Read the back of a HDMI pack and you'll note there's absolutely nothing on relative picture quality. Just a lot of dross on platinum versus gold etc. etc. The cables are made of different stuff but they all perform equally as well. There are a bunch of HDMI cable threads around here for further reading if you want to search. Regards Peter Gillespie
