timace Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Mornin' I just noticed in the Aldi catalogue that they've got a twin HD PVR on sale from today Looks pretty good: Aldi link: http://aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2867_6432.htm WP discussion: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-repli...fm/1087379.html I'm considering getting one for my mum as a Christmas gift as it's reasonably priced and with Aldi's 60 day return policy, I can't complain there. I'll give it a test run once I pick it up so I know I'm not giving her a dud Now excuse me while I head down to my local Aldi...
Wing Nut Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Can't really fault it for the price, features and return policy. I had one of their cheap SD PVRs for a day, but discovered it was a 1.5 tuner - returned no questions asked. It doesn't have everything, and there's no doubt a reliability issue, but at least its appearance should influence pricing on other more expensive big brand HD PVRs.
timace Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Got it, it's alright, only big issue is that it doesn't do 4:3 centre cut :\ Haven't tried the PVR element, yet... or done much other than watch the cricket on it
diesel Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Does it tiem shift? What outputs does it have? Hows the channel change speed? Care to provide a mini review?
timace Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 Does it tiem shift? What outputs does it have? Hows the channel change speed? Care to provide a mini review? I'm going to leave it to this thread (which I only noticed this afternoon) and the WP thread.
bazathome Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Could someone post the Hard Drive and Firmware specifications of the Aldi's Bauhn 250GB PVR. I had one but returned it the next cay because of all it's issues and brought a Supernet HDT1200PVR 160GB from eBay. It has just as many if not more issues than th Bauhn PVR but I have noticed it has near enough to exacrly the same Firmware. Aldi / Bauhn have now released new firmware to resolve most of the Bauhn issues so I'm keen to see if I can use the Bauhn update in the Supernet and fix ir's problems. These are all the specifications I can find on the Supernet without opening the case and the book has nothing in it about the firmware, the version or release date. Supernet HDT1200 PVR 160GB I'm thinking of using th Software/Firmqare the brought out for the Aldi BAUHN 1200 PVR because everything about the two units functions seem the same. Can I ask someone to post the Hard Drive and Firmware details of the Bauhn 250GB Aldi unit on here so I can compare the two or does somone altready have that answer. The seller has told me he is contacting the chinese supplier to supply s fix but I don't have much confidence in them after reading their negative feedbanck. The Supernet HDT1200PVR specifications I can find are H/W Ver: T-7710.4MT6.64M.c02.2x1216.0 S/W Ver: V.1.0.0.2 Book Info: V1.0.0.0 Update Date: Aug 26 2008 I would appreciate if someone knows if the Bauhn firmware upgrade will also suit the Supernet one. Cheers Barry
cappa Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Supernet HDT1200 PVR 160GBI'm thinking of using th Software/Firmqare the brought out for the Aldi BAUHN 1200 PVR because everything about the two units functions seem the same. YES ... Firmware works!!!! I have a Supernet HDT1200PVR and yesterday flashed it with the new Bauhn firmware, as found at http://uploaded.to/?id=200b3i . I found it on this Whirpool Discussion Forum , with best information found after 8th December 2008. Some of the improvements & functionality noted so far: - Timer: can enter the minute value to record (from 1 to 999). - Timer: can now use 25 different recordings (up from 10). - Timer: recording settings are not lost on Power Removal (have not confirmed, just read in forums). - Recording logo in top right corner can be removed by pressing Menu Button. - Recording Playback: info button removes the progress bar. - Recording Playback: Next Chapter button (->|) fast forwards at up to 16x speed. Same for Rewind. Yay!!! - Recording Playback: Mark Button will mark a spot to return to. Pressing Page +/- returns to the Mark spot. - Remote Control buttons appear to function the same. After doing the upgrade, I returned the PVR to factory settings and started again, just to be safe. If anything seems wrong, give that a try. So far I have not seen any adverse affects, but this could take time to find. So far I would highly recommend it.
