drubie Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 This round of cheaper Blu players has me thinking about a purchase (probably the Sony 550 with analog outs), but if anyone else already pulled the trigger but is in a similar situation to me, was it worth it? I've got a really cheap but effective setup for DVD - old Benq PB6200 projector, old Sony 5.1 DTS receiver, component switcher which has served well for many years. I'm just not ready to pull the plug on it (especially the PJ). The projector does an adequate (i.e. visibly better) job with broadcast high definition but it's clearly not as good as a native 1080p projector. It's still pretty stellar on progressive scan DVD and I'm just not seeing very well setup Blu demos anywhere in town that convince me that even at 1080p the difference is going to be not just noticeable, but compelling. Anyway, is there a point to going Blu with this older gear? I was thinking I'd buy the Sony player and ignore a couple of the analog outs on it (receiver only has 5.1 analog inputs) and set up the blu player to do 1080i via component. Then wait a couple of years before replacing the PJ.
