willwalk Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Hi All,Have a read of the link below.. http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_311533 So is there a possibility that DDT will be shut down if both networks (southern cross and PBL Media) sell their stakes? I hope it doesn't sound the end of Ten for Darwin? I hope somebody buys DDT. Maybe Ten or Prime or WIN? William Walker
willwalk Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I hope it doesn't sound the end of Ten for Darwin?I hope somebody buys DDT. Maybe Ten or Prime or WIN? William Walker I have an idea. Would Prime or Seven Network be interested to buy Southern Cross Tasmania and Southern Cross Darwin / Central, where as Macquaire Media can get to keep 100% of DDT and TDT and 3rd commercial station for Remote eastern australia? That would result in DDT and TDT becoming Southern Cross Ten in line with other states? Nine & WIN could sell their shares in DDT & TDT respectively to Macquaire Media. That way Macquaire media will get to keep 1 station, both DDT & TDT while selling SCTV to either Prime or Seven? I wonder if it will work? If Macquire Media sells SCTV Tasmania and SCTV Darwin to Prime or Seven, it will mean that the station will be a full seven network station and that DDT & TDT will be Southern Cross Ten? Just a thought? William Walker

willwalk Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 That would be great if sctv was full seven, sctv mixing ten and seven is stupid when we have TDT!!! Yeah. Darwin has a similar situation to Tasmania. DDT is really a clone of TDT with the same news beamed from Melbourne at 5 pm. The only difference is ads, but during the day before 5 pm and after 10:30 pm at night the loop of Darwin can be seen during the ads. Southern Cross Darwin is also a clone of Southern Cross Tasmania with the exception of ads and Darwin getting the news from Melbourne. Macquaire Media has only January 19 2009 to sell shares in either SC, DDT or TDT. WIN could get to keep 100% of DDT, but here in Darwin we have a situation where PBL Media must also sell shares in either Nine or DDT by October 2009, so the situation here is very tricky. I hold great fears of what will happen to DDT if no one will buy the shares from both Macquaire & PBL Media. Will DDT cease to exist if that happens meaning that Ten might have a short life here? aeon1503559541 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 (edited) There's a small article in Todays NT News that mentions this on page 4 titled "Darwin TV boss avoids prosecution". It talks mostly about the director of Macquarie Group Limited - Nicholas Moore will not be prosecuted for breaching the broadcasting controls rules. The last paragraph has the following though: MacMedia lodged an appeal two weeks ago after the Federal Court upheld ACMA's finding ordering MacMedia to sell its digital TV interests in Darwin and Tasmania by January 19 as it was in breach of rules banning companies form controlling more than one commercial TV station per market.
