JaseMedia Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I have just purchased a new Panasonic TH-42PX8A plasma TV - great TV. I use it with my HTPC running MythTv via a DVI-HDMI lead. My HTPC uses a Streamzap IR remote control which has a USB IR receiver - basically the IR receiver is on a lead connected to the USB port and I can place it in the most appropriate spot. It also has a little red light on the top of it which indicates when its receiving IR signals. Since I set up the plasma, if I place the IR receiver anywhere near the TV it is swamped with IR signals! The little red light is constantly flickering. At the moment I need to actually place a large speaker between the receiver and the TV in order to stop it and allow the actual remote control signals a chance to get through!? Has anyone else come across this? Why is my plasma emitting so much IR? I've even tried placing the receiver behind the screen but its still effected?
diesel Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I've heard of lights affecting IR. Sounds like you will just have to shield the IR receiver or move it away.
Shonky* Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Plasmas most definitely produce quite a bit of IR. My MCE receiver flashes away merrily while the plasma is on. It sits below the TV so it's all reflected light. Whilst that happens mine still seems to work just fine and it doesn't produce any spurious button presses. Try placing it behind the panel so at worst it's only reflected light.

Yeah have tried that, I currently have a speaker between the panel the IR receiver, if I place the receiver hard up against the opposite side of the speaker to the panel then it blocks the signals, anywhere else within close proximity, even directly behind the panel, the receive light flickers non stop and I cant seam to get a real signal from the remote through? Maybe I have a very sensitive IR receiver?
