Rosco122 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Hi, not sure if i should put this here or another section, but i've had PS3 running in my theatre room and i've been having some sound issues with blu-rays and my AVR. Not sure if its a PCM or bitstream problem. But i thought i'd move the PS3 in the other room and connect it to my 42" Philips LCD to test in there and make sure its not the PS3 at fault. Now this is a US PS3 and i have never connected it to this TV before but i tried running it through HDMI and composite and couldn't get anything to display?? Any thoughts. Took it back to other room and works fine. Not sure if its a PAL/NTSC problem?
ajm1503559545 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 When you plug it into the new display press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds to reset the video output. Once you've done that you can have the PS3 automatically adjust for the best resolution/refresh rate for your display.
digitalj Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 with regards to the audio, the PS3 is only capable of streaming LPCM, DD and DTS, so DD+, Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD (HR and MA) are decoded by the PS3 and sent as multichannel LPCM.
Rosco122 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 yeah i have PS3 set to Linear PCM but i'm only getting sound effects and the speech is very very quiet. Will try the power button tonight
Rosco122 Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 ok got all up and running on the LCD TV last night and all the sound seems fine on there, so im not sure whats wrong with my setup as everything has been running fine for over a year. Guess the AVR is on the blink so i can get a new one??
ajm1503559545 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Ok, I'm confused. Is this an audio issue or a video issue you're having? On the one hand you're talking PCM/bistreaming and on the other you mention HDMI/composite and "couldn't get anything to display". Are you getting a picture but no sound or sound but no picture or neither?
Rosco122 Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 yeah sorry got a bit sidetracked. There is no display problem now as i got the PS3 working on the LCD by holding power button as mentioned above. Was only testing on LCD to see if the sound all works through HDMI and it does. Its my system in the theatre room that i'm having sound issues with. I have a Panasonic SA-xr700 which ive had for about 16 months. It was a refurbished unit. Mainly i'm just trying to see if it was the Panasonic at fault or the PS3. Im 99% sure its the Panasonic.
ajm1503559545 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Glad to hear you got the picture issues sorted. So what audio issues are you having?
diesel Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Was only testing on LCD to see if the sound all works through HDMI and it does. Its my system in the theatre room that i'm having sound issues with. Most panels won't accept bitstream as an input through HDMI I thought?
Rosco122 Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 Most panels won't accept bitstream as an input through HDMI I thought? my theatre room is PS3 -> Panasonic saxr-700 -> TW1000 projector...... I've tried changing HDMI cables and used both hdmi inputs with no luck.
Super Greg Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Try this to see if it may help; - PS3 set to Linear PCM - On your PS3 menu, goto "Sound Settings" --> "Audio Output Settings" --> "HDMI" --> choose AUTOMATIC --> press x to save setting.
tHiNg Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Sorry to piggyback on this thread but I have a no picture issue when trying to connect to my Pioneer plasma, even though I have it working fine on a small Samsung LCD. I understand that keeping the power button pressed for 5 secs resets the video output to default but have not wanted to do that as I am thinking the default setting won't display anything via hdmi so how the hell will I be able to set it up? So I take it that if I have the Ps3 connected to the Pioneer displaying nothing, if I reset the Ps3 will automatically display hdmi? Or do I have to make an adjustment to video settings on the Samsung before I try and switch it over?

diesel Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Sorry to piggyback on this thread but I have a no picture issue when trying to connect to my Pioneer plasma,IIRC, one of the HDMI inputs on the Pioneer is set to off by default out of the factory. Have youtried connecting to a different HDMI input, or ensuring the HDMIs are active on the Pio.
tHiNg Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 On BB so will be brief. Using Momitsu through the one HDMI fine. With the Samsung the reset works fine. With the Pio the screen stays blank. Tried the appropriate button presses on the controller to select HDMI with the Pio still no display. Any other ideas guys?

Same problem with the IQ2 - no display and can't seem to enable HDMI in setup. The Pio is 4 years old and probably pre-dates HDCP? That really pisses me off.
