Just wondering that Accusound is like for the money? I have a friend who works at a major department store and is trying to off load me a set of floor stock Accusound Theta (Accusound Theta) speakers for $1600. I reckon I still knock off a hundred or so dollars off that price too. Are the Theta speakers worth getting for $1600? Im not sure if its better to look at other brands or try to buy these at the so called discount of $1000 off RRP.

Also he said I could either get a Yamaha 1800 receiver for $1300 (Floor stock) or Onkyo 705 (New) for $1300. Is this a good price? Which is a better AV Receiver?

Cheers.

You can get accusound speakers brand new on ebay for $600 - $800, just do a search for "Accusound" , dont know if they are the Theta range

Alot of times AV receiver floor stock doesnt actually get used, it just sits there unplugged. If thats the case i would snap up the Yamaha.
IMHO the Yamaha is a much better receiver

The Yamaha 1800 hasnt been used. Its just been sitting in the middle of the isle gathering dust. It is out of the box though.

Whats a good price to pick up the Yamaha 1800 for new?

No, they are the reference series either the 6.5 or 8.5. This number has nothing to do with how many speakers are in the package, it's just the model. The Theta range is an older model which was Accusounds top model (at least thats how they promoted them lol) I'm sure and it did get a review in a HT mag I once read. From memory they are quite ok for HT use with fai imaging but were lacking a bit for music. They seem to be really good value for the $1k or less mark. They are a Aussie speaker company who has them made in China these days and the eBay seller is Audio Australia whom I have bought AMPs from and they seemed fine to deal with. You should have a listen to the speakers to see if they are too your liking, not certain I'd call the price a bargin as you can get the newer range of ref 8.5 for around $800 still boxed off ebay from them. The RRP on the REF 8.5 is the same as the Theta so being able to get them for $800ish might look to be a better buy if you are after Accusound speakers.

Just had a look at completed listings on the REF 8.5 and they seem to be selling the complete package for under $700.

Do a Google search, lots of info about on them. Some think they are great value, while others don't.

I listened to the Accusound Theta speaters in Harvey Norman this week, looking for a speaker pack to go with my new dennon 1909.

Compared to the Klipsch speakers that I compared it with, it was much more subtle, and I could pick out individual sounds better. No idea if it's $1k is a good deal as I didn't get to talking prices. Also keep in mind my current system at home is just some old sony HTIB satellites, so anything will probably sound good to me :)

Be careful buying gear off "friends". It will only lead to pain if, after purchasing, you realise it's not the bargain it's being portrayed as. In my opinion you should be able to do significantly better than those offers.

The Onkyo is an excellent AVR,but last years model,Try to get some Accusound Delta speakers if you can,but if not the Theta is next best.

The Yammy and the Onkyo are both good AVR's,but i'd go Onkyo.

I'm thinking of buying the Onkyo 706 to replace my old 595.

Cheers

The Accusound Deltas were replaced by the Thetas Accusound .See here.

For $1,600 you would need to be getting the TH200 fronts with the TH300 subby.

That's a good price even for floor stock

The Yammy 1800 is discontinued so $1300 is ok for floor stock.

I was offered $3,300 for this combo about six months ago so $2,900 now (at mates rates) I reckon you should knock him down another couple of hundred bucks.
