hey i was just wondering with speaker stands - do people worry about the speaker falling off all the time? it seems so rickity and id just be always worried that im going to knock them over....do you use double sided tape or screw them on or something??

I bought the 900mm ones linked by ...

Nice and solid. Quality is pretty good.

At 900mm high they can be a bit unstable particularly if you use the "spikes" on carpet. They are actually a bit more stable without them.

The spikes aren't really spikes - they don't penetrate the carpet like my front floor standing speaker spikes. I've knocked one over already slightly hurting my speaker and window frame :(

One of mine is out of the way so shouldn't be a problem. The problem isn't the speaker falling off in my experience - it's more the stand itself falling over and then the speaker falling off. I intend to tie it to the lounge suite that it sits behind. Maybe a bit of double sided tape or similar to prevent brushing the speaker off the stand.

Double sided tape works pretty well. I have wall mounted speakers now, but have used stands in the past. The important thing is to use a good quality tape. I went into a hardware store and asked for the best one, i think it was a 3M brand, whatever their strongest one is. Only problem was getting them off when i needed to separate them.

The other thing to watch out for is knocking the whole stand over, complete with speaker.

If after something cheap, these regurlarly sell for the $40 starting price. Not bad quality, though you will have to drill your own cable management holes.

if mountd on a wall right behind you , how high up and far from your sitting poistion should it be...?

i might be able to talk wife into doing that.

Denon manual says 60-90cm above head height which is pretty high unless you're lying on the floor....

got them yesterday. Drilled holes is floor ( i can go under house) and ran speaker wire. Now the final choice.

Looking at the mounting system for the wall. Does not look that great, there is a safety wire, but it looks like the main mount just screws on and then you put speaker on.

No drop down lock or anything. you could tap speaker of wall by touching it. Is this Riight?

You've answered your own question. Besides, like I told you before in a PM, your speakers are going to be firing away over and above your head, so what your hear will be the reflection of the rear channel sound off the front wall behind your TV. This reflected sound will mix up with your front channels .. i.e. total mess. But hey, the speakers will look prettier hanging off the wall and that's what really counts, right? :)

i know but stands might not be the answer as lounge where wife sits is only 40 cm away from side wall.. hard to put a stand there.

I just though i was looking at the wall mount wrong but hey. :)
