relliksalta Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I'm thinking of picking one of these up to replace my Topfield 6000 SD. I mean for the price and 2 year warranty how can you go wrong ?
madmax Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 I mean for the price and 2 year warranty how can you go wrong ? Now that's just asking for trouble.......
Geggog Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Does anyone know anything about these things? Does it have the TV program so you can scroll through and select your shows or is it purely time/channel based? HDMI output?

HDMI output? I would guess it does have the EPG capability but networks aren't broadcasting so not much help unless you can get an external feed like IceTV or tivo
hustler Posted November 18, 2008 Author Posted November 18, 2008 Has anyone found a review, feature list or spec of this machine online? Not yet, and its certainly not from lack of trying
Dr. Zachary Smith Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 Not yet, and its certainly not from lack of trying Amen to that! The company's website, usually good at listing specifications, is alarmingly short on details for this unit. There's no details on whether or not there are SCART outputs or component or DVI/HDMI. I suppose all of us who want a "hands-on" with this thing will have to join the scrum to buy one on Thursday. And believe me, when Aldi offers low price bargains on durables there's always a scrum when the doors open!

hustler Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 Snipped from Whirlpool: [snip] OK – managed to get my hands on one before ALDI shut tonight. Have been playing with it for a few hours – and it seems surprisingly good quality with no issues so far! Heres the specs: Brand: BAUHN Model Number: HD PVR1200 Display Video Type: 1080i/720p/576p HD video Output Type: YPbPr, VGA, HDMI SD Video Output Type: S-video and CVBS Audio Output Type: Stereo(RCA photo jack) Digital Audio Output: S/PDIF Optical HDD Size: 250GB Tuner: HD Dual channel (can record one channel & watch another) Weight: 3.5kg Dimension: 355mm (W) x 240mm (D) x 60mm (H) Features: - Upto 10 timer entries - Parental Control - EPG (with the ability to select and EPG program for recording for upto 7 days into the future) - Teletext I have never used a PVR before and found it really easy to use – the HD picture playback is faultless. Its honestly an absolute bargin at the ALDI price of $299 – get in quick coz I don't think they'll last long at this price. PS -Also – confirming that the unit does not have any USB connection for external HDD or any other method of PC connection. [snip]

Bluedog1503561024 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) Hi all, just got back from Aldi. There is no security sticker so off came the top of the unit. Inside the HDD is a Hitachi Cinema Star 250 GB Model Number HCP725025GLAT80 P/N 0A37039. It is a standard IDE drive. The website (www.hitachigst.com) states that these are purpose built HDDs for the pvr market, so that is a big improvement over previous Aldi offerings. There is plenty of space around the different boards. The power supply has several heat sinks and there is a user replaceable glass fuse mounted on this board. Interestingly there is a drop down panel on the front that has slots for card readers etc. The box and the adverts all state that the unit can record two channels whilst watching a recorded program. I have had one of the earlier Tevion PVRs for the last 18 months and I can say that the build quility in this unit is very different. Well off to try it out. Edited November 20, 2008 by Bluedog
madent Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 (edited) Well, so far so far so good with this unit... PQ is excellent... No stutters in recorded content (recording 2 channels at once) time shift works well... epg is good with ability to "book" recordings from it... Remote response is good... (although I did notice it also operates my digicrystal 9000pvr) Still playing with it but it's easy to learn all the functions... One observation is that there is no indication on the front panel of this unit to let you know it's recording... Anything you want to know about it...just ask ok? Cheers Edited November 20, 2008 by madent
mrdenn1s Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 No other input methods except via arial? Can i plug Foxtel in?
Geggog Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 So who's going to be the first person to try and put a bigger disk in it?
madent Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 (edited) No other input methods except via arial? Can i plug Foxtel in? No you can't...It's a pvr only. So who's going to be the first person to try and put a bigger disk in it? voltages are all different for the 250, 320 & 500 http://www.hitachigst.com/portal/site/en/m...8b2bd2eac4f0a0/ Cheers Edited November 20, 2008 by madent
DaveMews Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 10 timers, what a load of crock. And given its no name status, doubt they will ever release firmware to increase it. I have so many timers I have to record "his" shows on the beyonwiz and "her" shows on the mediastar. Each box has about 20 timers set currently
