Sometime later this week I am hopefully going to be receiving the new HDTV that I have been waiting for. Over the weekend I purchased a new lowline entertainment unit and when disconnecting all the cables, and then placing the peripherals I have into the new unit, it dawned on me how many cables I have behind the unit - surely there would be an easier way to hook all of this up.

To gauge some idea of what I have been doing so far - here is a run down of how it is setup at the moment with the standard CRT TV that I have.

- Antenna (RF cables?) running from Antenna socket in the wall > Foxtel Digital (not IQ) > VCR > TV: 3 cables in total.

- Scart cables from Foxtel Unit, one directly into Video 2 port on the TV, the other going to the VCR: 2 cables.

- RCA cable from VCR to Video 3 port on the TV.

- RGB and LR Audio Cables from DVD player to DVD component input.

- RCA/S-Video cable from Playstation 3 to S-Video 1 port on the TV.

Now with all that being said... with the new television I am thinking of setting up Foxtel to run through the S-Video port, and the Playstation 3 to run through HDMI. The VCR/DVD player that we have is a cheap LG combo unit that was mainly purchased so that we could still record programs from FTA and Foxtel. I am thinking of purchasing a HD PVR sometime in the new year.

I have read somewhere that the antenna signal for FTA television can not be as sharp if you are running your antenna cables through several other sources before it reaches the TV - is there any other alternative?

Thanks to those in advance that can reply - I can work my way around the cables at the back of the unit, but I am not confident enough to know what I am doing when it comes to alternatives such as new cables and technology. If anybody could help or provide easier solutions to what I have mentioned above, would love to hear from you.

I have daisy chanined my antenna cables fom outlet->PVR->TV and have no problems with reception.

Depending on the device the FTA signal can actually be boosted by a device in the chain, for example I have a Humax Satellite receiver that I used to have in between the TV and wall socket, the analogue signal received by the TV was far better with the satellite receiver in place.
