ozdoc Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 (edited) I'm keen to see the numbers on how people intend to spend the upcoming cash handouts in December. Obviously the Governments intent is to get cash moving in the economy, but it is my sense that many punters are looking to use it for savings or debt retirement, which makes the plan come unstuck. So how about it? What are you intending to do with the coin? Our family doesn't meet the criteria, which is a shame, because Mrs Ozdoc is well qualified to stimulate the economy after years of retail practice. Edited November 11, 2008 by ozdoc

SDL Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Don't qualify. I'm in one of those suffering groups that no Government ever gives handouts to - middle class Australian family.
(ツ) Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Don't qualify. I'm in one of those suffering groups that no Government ever gives handouts to - Same here, even the Medicare Levy relief is doing the same thing as my wavy hair - it's waving me goodbye
DrP Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 If by some strange series of events some of this money heads my way I'll put it in a sock and stick it under my mattress for safe keeping. :loab3A
aztec Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I live in a part of the country where the Labour State Government is doing all they can to take back what the Federal government gives out, if I get anything it will probably go on transport costs.
SDL Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I live in a part of the country where the Labour State Government is doing all they can to take back what the Federal government gives out, if I get anything it will probably go on transport costs. Sydney is in Victoria?
aztec Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Sydney is in Victoria? I don't bother reading about Vic so I wasn't aware they were having the same problems.
SDL Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I don't bother reading about Vic so I wasn't aware they were having the same problems. I can now take much longer to get to work and pay two seperate tolls for the honour - I choose instead to use the old roads as many others do.
mcduck Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 willing to keep the economy going but became unqualified when baby turned 16

I gather Rees will be making parents pay for their child's school travel Disgusting if true. As far as I'm concerned, everyone under 16 should be able to travel on public transport for free. Unfortunately I don't qualify for anything regardless well we get part B also because we are basically single income so I guess due to that we get the full part A?
ozdoc Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 well we get part B also because we are basically single income so I guess due to that we get the full part A? Not necessarily. Part B is for stay at home partners (single income family) who have a child under 16 yrs, limited to familes where the primary earner has an adjusted taxable income of $150,000 or less per annum. The $150000 cap only came in this year. Part A is based on the number of kids, and total family income, regardless of whether one or two parents work. A bit complicated, but rates given here: Income Test for Family Tax Benefit A My understanding is that if you qualify at all for part A, then the cash handouts apply. If you just qualify for part B, then no cash for you.

It's only a question of time before state budget deficititis and state government taxpanicitis becomes more widespread.

DrP Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Yep, that's exactly what he's doing. Nothing new there, I can remember paying bus fare to / from primary school many many moons ago.
stahc Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 I can now take much longer to get to work and pay two seperate tolls for the honour - I choose instead to use the old roads as many others do. is that all???????????? try going to town from where aztec is....................about 3 tolls & rising..............more is you want the pleasure of continuing on to the airport i'm "lucky"...........i live in the southern part of that area.................choice of 2 different routes..........all with tolls but one gives you a cashback
stahc Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 well we get part B also because we are basically single income so I guess due to that we get the full part A? us too.................although i leave it to the end of the tax year to apply due to my income...............don't want to get in trouble
