Blackman1503561291 Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) Like i said above rush hour 3 on DTS Master audio 7.1 was a waste I watched two movies over the weekend " Tears of the sun" Dolby Digital in 5.1 and Rush hour 3 in DTS Master audio 7.1 and I wished both would have swapped there audio codec around. I was VERY IMPRESSED watching Tears Of The Sun (Brice Willis) as the sound separation was great on all 5 speakers, dialog on the centre, explosions from the front to right surround, birds squawking at the same time on the left surround and its just Dolby Digital 5.1 and nothing else. I think it was a waste to have made Rush hour 3 in 7.1, and yes all speakers came up on the onkyo and were working correctly. We need real ACTION MOVIES IN 7.1. By the way the movie 3.10 to Yuma sounds terrific on my 7.1 system and thats PCM 7.1 Edited November 10, 2008 by Blackman
SimonNo10 Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 I watched two movies over the weekend " Tears of the sun" Dolby Digital in 5.1 Hey mate. Is the copy of Tears of the sun Blu-Ray or SD? The BD version has a pcm 5.1 track on it and it's amazing. One of my favorite war movies.

One of my favorite war movies. Yes blu-ray, correct I just checked it on the back of the box and it says PCM uncompressed. When a movie give you a choices of English 5.1's that are not either Dolby True HD audio or say DTS Master HD audio just dolby digital 5.1 or if I remember some come up something like Dolby Dig 48 khz which would be the best to select out of the two. If I see PCM 5.1 I always select this audio.

Blackman1503561291 Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 Box says PCM 5.1 will check options on the audio on my BD 30 and see what pops up on the Onkyo Just checked it and I used Dolby Digital on the Pana Bd 30 pressing audio button, Dolby Digital come up on the front of Onkyo, I try again, I pressed the Audio again on the Pana and it comes up on the TV as LPCM 48K and on the Onkyo it comes up with Muliti Channel. Which one would you use?
Blackman1503561291 Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 LPCM 48 is the lossless track use that. Thanks for the info, Silly me watched it in Just Dolby Digital 5.1. I might re watch it again on the weekend on LPCM 48 Now the million dollar question is once you select LPCM the Onkyo comes up as MultiChannel and the same on the TV, but when you use the arrows < > (listening modes) on the Onkyo remote control you have over a Dozen options like MulitChannel, Neo, 7.1, EX, PLIIX and stuff like that, Actually I should write them all down. Help Should I try some of the Onkyo Options
SimonNo10 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Hmm I own the Onkyo SR-805 (using as a pre-pro) and when I listen to a PCM 5.1 lossless tracks I can only select Multichannel and THX modes which I use THX Ultra 2 as I have M&K THX speakers and it sounds great for me. Just make sure that the setting on the BD-30 under audio setting that everthing is set to Bitstream and Secondary audio is turned off. If you have pcm set to on in the audio options for the player you maybe only be getting 2 channel when you selecting the PCM track which is why your able to select all those other surround modes. I think this is correct but I'm happy to be wrong and if someone else can confirm what I'm saying or correct it that's cool. By the way what Onkyo model receiver do you own? Is the player hooked up using HDMI?

Testing Tears of the Sun last night I set the movie on PCM 48k the Onkyo changed fro Dolby Digital to Multi Channel, In Multichannel I arrowed selection right to over a Dozen different audio selections and all worked differently and displayed on the telly + on the front of the Onkyo.
SimonNo10 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Ok np. I believe if you want to confrim that your listening to the lossless track in 5.1 there's a display button on the remote hopefully it's the same as mine that will show on the Onkyo PCM 48khz rather than just Multichannel. Anyway sounds like you have it all setup correctly like mine as I own the BD-30 as well. Let me know when you've tried it out.
