Steve28 Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Ok I picked up one of these a few days ago for my CRT TV, unit is ok except is has some features missing. 1. It wont do component on a CRT, wont downscale to 567i, theres only options of 1080i, 720p and 576p in the tv set up menu. I took it back as i rang Sanyo support, who are useless, spoke to a technician, and I surprised him by advising him that the unit wont do Component on a CRT.

Lack of support for component on CRT sets is not an issue as TV would be a HD ready LCD, but I am interested to know if it outputs SD via composite and sound via stereo jacks when the TV is connected via HDMI. The Sanyo site and manual are silent on this point which makes me suspect it doesn't, but I'd like first hand confirmation if possible.
kanan Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Sanyo TUHD1000 does a super job. If you are looking for a Set Top Box without any problems, this is the one
diesel Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 But if it can't do 576i, doesn't that rule out many older CRT TVs?
Steve28 Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 no, it will do 576i via composite only, my other STB i have at home will do component 576i, much clearer picture than using the RCA composite connection
Guest !ANNE DORTHINS Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 AUGUST - 13 - 2009 I have purchased one of these SANYO TUHD1000 from Big W for $164. I see Dick Smith Have them for $167 in some stores. I am really impressed by the unit. I use composite for connecting to the old Sony T.V and it really looks good. The Blue Channel read out and Clock on standby is nice as some inits don't have them now. It's nice also that I can change channels on the unit itself without the remote as sometimes it goes missing. The remote feels nice and looks to me to be well made as some units of other under $200 brands fell a bit flimsy. It receives the channels well and put all the channels in the correct number which some units like the new Bush $98 did not. I think as we get used to having so many channels it is nice to be able to know say 22 is abc 2 , or 9 is nine and 1 is 1 HD, 88 or 99 is "GO". This may change from area to area but at least I know in my house on all the set top boxes and friends lunits and T.V's localy that a certain number relates to a certain TV Station, especially for the older people who find change harder and really wish analogue would just stay. I really love the EPG of this unit. I am buying another 2 this week. Anne Dorthins
jave Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Yeah, I don't know about this model. I bought a new TUHD1000 from DSE back in May 09. But in the last few weeks I started getting red/yellow pixels around shapes on the screen on all channels. The pixels would hang around for 5-15 mintues, then go away. The problem would then return anywhere from 1 to 7 days. I never had that problem with my old SD tuner. So I took it back to the DSE store for a replacement on Friday. In return I got a new TUHD1000(A). Not much difference except for an external AC/DC transformer and the remote control has buttons with a different feel. Now I think this new one is playing up!!! The old one would start up within 5 seconds, this new one can taken up to 10. Plus it shows "Load" then "CRC" on the LED display when you hit the "On" button on the remote to start it up. And it also turns itself back on an hour or two after you've switched it off!!! (I don't have the timer enabled.) I'll be taking it back to DSE today/tomorrow for another one.
Bennyt Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 (edited) I have just bought one of these 2 days ago - fast setup, quick channel scan and channel numbers already sorted in setup. No mucking around - good quality pic and only using on GE CRT 80cm but more than adequate while I wait for my new TV. Have set it up through video (going old school) so can still tape programs when I like. Channel change is fairly quick in approx 2 secs, EPG is basic but not too bad and remote is quite easy to use and good feel on buttons etc. Lacks any majorly speccie bits and pieces but has HDMI output and optical sound when required later. A good starter box for me and I recommend this box. Have had no issues with any of the other things mentioned previous and very happy with purchase. Ben Edited January 22, 2010 by Bennyt

Ben Did you buy the TUHD1000 or the TUHD1000(A) model? The later model, the TUHD1000(A), has a power adapter whereas the TUHD1000 plugs straight into the wall socket. I purchased a TUHD1000(A) from Dick Smith before xmas and it had the same issues as jave's from the prevoius post, ie turning itself on after about 2 hours and also lost various settings like clock and timer when in standby. Consequently the timer function was useless and I returned it to DSE next day for a refund. I have since picked up a TUHD1000 "dispay model" from Target marked down to $110 and it works fine, so I suspect the issues are with the later model only.
Bennyt Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Mine is the A model with the external power pack. The other night I went out and set a video timer program to record - I just left it turned on. Came home many hours later and the program was fine and the unit still on so no shutdown issues. Last night the unit froze though - pic on screen stuck even though audio continued. Had to pull the power out the back to reset as the remote did nothing. First time this has happened in the two weeks I have had it now. Other than that the only thing I can complain about is the odd pixelation and slight stutter every now and then but from my understanding that is a signal issue and varies where you live? During an hour show may get 4 -5 occurences of 1/2 sec each...... Very happy with it so far though for $129 bucks!
