Took delivery of my Lx508 2 days ago and it's brilliant. But while I'm waiting to get my my Bluray I'm using an older DVD player. i've used the Component leads but the picture is pretty bad - worse than the composite. Also it looks over scanned as I can't see the bottom of the screen. If I use the composite it's all good. Can anyone let me know what I've done wrong and what the best setting should be? I'm using the input 2 jacks

Thx

Is the cable connected correctly? Simple mistake to make.

Otherwise check the inputs and outputs. Some component connections are YpBpR others are YcBcR and usually they are not compatible.

If your panel is YpBpR and your dvd player is not, check to see if your player has a progressive mode and turn it on to use YpBpR.

good luck

That would be Y Pb Pr (or Y Cb Cr but really that's for the digital domain which isn't really used in home stuff).

But seriously check you haven't got two swapped. You may need to enable the component output in the DVD player. It might also be called YUV.

starsky1,

The previous 2 posts are incorrect.

You can use Y which has green connectors, Cr or Pr which is red connectors and Pb or Cr which is blue connectors. In all these cases the signals are analog Black image all 3 are 0 V and white all 3 are +700 mV.

You must connect colour to colour.

Y, Cr, Cb is for SD and Y, Pr Pb is for HD not analog or digital. If digital is fed into an analog input you will just get moving columns of dots.

The image size problems may be the settings in the DVD player. Check it is set to component and the 16:9 aspect ratio is selected. The same should be checked on the TV.

YPbPr is the analog "version" of the YCbCr colour space.

Also there are sync pulses in there.

Shonky,

The difference between Y Cr Cb and Y Pr Pb is the primary colours (the exact colour of Red, Green and Blue) used. It has nothing to do with analog or digital but the colours of the filters in the camera and the mixing equations used to produce the signals.

Y, Pr and Pb give a wider range of colours and has been introduced with new HD standards.

So SD cameras are unchanged, but HD cameras have the new colours.

Between the cameras and the decoder the gain of each channel must be identical in both systems. The display can work out if the signal is HD or SD because of the number of lines in the image so will automatically select the correct decoder Y, Cr Cb or Y Rr Pb. So as far as interconnections go it makes no difference between these systems.
