Gurtofen Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Hi guys, I am currently having display issues via video inputs to my 42 inch LCD TV. I believe they are stemming from my Yamaha RX-V863 amp. I have Foxtel iQ connected to my amp via scart to component for video and optical to optical for the audio. I also have a PS3 connected to my amp via HDMI. The output from the amp to the TV is connected via HDMI. Everytime I change the channel on my Foxtel iQ box, I get a quick blue screen followed by a green screen and then the channel will be displayed (like a new video input being selected). It used to just happen randomly and not very frequently without any channel changes but it is now doing this every time a channel is changed on the Foxtel box. The reason I suspect the Yamaha amp is because I also noticed that the same thing happened when I was watching a DVD on the PS3 a couple of times. I have swapped the HDMI cables around to ensure it wasn't one of them and also connected the HDMI Out from the amp to a different HDMI In on the TV to make sure it wasn't that but neither of those fixed the problem. The only thing that I can see that I haven't changed or tested is the Scart to Component cable that is connected from the Foxtel box to the amp, however I have had this cable previously connected from my Foxtel box to my TV directly and never had any problems. Does anyone know why this would be occurring or how i can fix it? Does the amp need replacing under warranty? Has anyone had similar issues or have heard of any problems like this? I would really like to fix this problem ASAP as it is really annoying. I am not a guru with these things, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Gurtofen.
kiwimeat Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Hi Gurtofen, What video processing do you have switched on. It is simply up-conversion (analog to HDMI) or are you scaling the analog input? I have heard of the symptoms before in relation to HDMI upconversion. It is entirely possible that the changing channel causes a very brief interruption in video signal which the video processor in the AVR initially struggles to handle. I have an IQ box with SCART to component and it passes through a Yamaha RX-V3800 (previously a 2600) and is upconverted to HDMI and don't experience the issue. However, I do not do any other video processing (either deinterlacing or scaling) as my panel has a superior scaler to the 3800 (and shortly I will have a DVDO Edge to process all my video sources).
Gurtofen Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 Hi kiwimeat, Thanks for your reply. As for what video processing do I have switched on?......None that I know of....I am simply trying to pass the video signal from the iQ box via component to the amp and then to the TV via HDMI. I am not trying to deinterlace or scale as referenced in your post...but then again, I probably wouldn't know how to manually do that anyway! Could I have a selection wrong that I may have done inadvertently? Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Gurtofen.
Gurtofen Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 BUMP Anyone got any further advice? I am lost as to what I should do..... Cheers, Gurtofen.
tonymy01 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 The Yamaha 1800/3800/1900/3900 has a setup choice to let you upscale the component signal to whatever you want over HDMI, this way, your amp is sending the same HDMI signal always to the TV. Your issue sounds like the TV doesn't like the resolution change and/or momentary break that changing channels gives over HDMI, so all you need to do is go into your component and or video setup menu and set 1080i/p (or if 720p is better with your TV choose that), and then the amp isn't constantly seeking for what the component signal standard is when it gets a small break and just keeps a constant 1080i signal over HDMI going to your TV. Then you will only get black during channel changes rather than your TV having to resynch and renegotiate the HDMI connection all the time. Regards
