Just wanting to ask a couple of questions about receivers which are Yamaha MusicCAST compatialble and wondered if anyone here uses it? I'm not full bottle on what MusicCAST can/can't do and I'm a little confused by the V3800 manual. It appears to me that you navigate the songs on the PC using the receiver but it also mentions about installing Windows Media Player on a PC.

My question is, does anybody use MusicCAST? If you use Windows Media Player, do you initiate the song play from this or via other methods? (I'm not up to speed with Windows Media Player either as I use Xlobby at the moment). Thanks, cc_c.

4. Select "Net/USB" as the input on your receiver, wait for a bit for it to sort itself out, then navigate to what you want to play.

Thanks very much for the reply(s) :D

Can you elaborate on "navigate" as this is bit that I am unsure of. Is this with the 3800 or in Windows Media Player.

Thanks again, cc_c.

Musiccast is a yamaha server system seperate to your receiver it comprises of a main server and remote client system, however you can link the receiver with it.

The receiver can also share with your PC through Windows Media Player, must be version 11.

via the Graphical User Interface (GUI) on the 3800 (ie you need a tv/monitor turned on to see what you are doing on your 3800).

Thanks for that, I assumed it must be something along those lines, the confusing part is the Windows Media 11 aspect. I assume the 3800 has to use Windows Media 11 to "stream" the music files, otherwise, why is Windows Media required.

I first discovered this way of getting to my music collection when mucking about with network media playing in my Nokia N95 mobile. It says you have to enable the sharing in WMP. WMP sets up AVPNP type protocol for providing a bunch of info (more than just name and directory) to allow a network media player that uses the PNP type protocol to play shared media (supports auto-discovery etc too, so no need to even tell the player any IP addresses. It just all works fairly smoothly). Now both my Nokia and Yammi can play my music on the PC. Took a while to get right, due to some kind of corruption in my security profile, one of the PC services was failing to start (may have been the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" looking in my list of services now) and causing the sharing option in WMP to bomb out. A bit of googling later, fixed the issue and bobs-your-uncle.

Regards
