Hello,

I have a pretty big problem with my Full HD Sony Bravia KDL-32V4000.

I had been fiddling around with the settings and thought I'd venture into the service menu. I wasn't planning on touching anything there, was just looking around. I went into panel settings and was scrolling up and down and then, I had accidently clicked on one of the settings (AG 32"(WXGA)). The screen turned off, then turned back on and all that was popping up were colours. It'd start with the screen half red, then switch to green, then blue, then multi coloured (like you get when you finish watching a tape).

Does any body know how to fix this? Possibly a way of being able to reset the settings without switching on the TV?

Thanks.

BUMP.

P.S. I can still hear sound and have been trying to reset it to factory defaults so if anybody can post the exact button sequence to reset it, it might solve the issue. :)

Call your local Sony Centre they should be happy to help you sort it out !

If they don't help, post here again

Someone here will have the same TV and the know how to sort it !

Disconnect the TV from the power point and leave it that way for half an hour. Turn it back on and with any luck it should be back to normal.

Service menu setting should not be saved permanently unless the save sequence is pressed.

If that gets you going take the hint and stay out of the service menu if you don’t know EXACTELY what you are doing and why you are doing it. Others take heed.

I had it disconnected all night. I switched it back on just then and it still has the same problem. >.<

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help. Appreciate it. :)

Probably more of a case that they dont know/want to get into the service menu :)

If you find someone that has the same model, and they go into the service menu, they should be able to tell you what buttons to press to change that setting back... Example only: get into service menu, press up 5 times, then left twice then the red button etc

Cheers,

Well I need either someone who will go into the service menu, or just someone who will go into the options and tell me the right buttons to press to reset the TV to factory settings.

I hope you find a fix for your TV. I'm sure you will.

What on earth possessed you to venture into the service menu? I don't own an HDTV (yet), but even I know that that is a big no-no.

I was just curious at what it offered. It actually had some useful things like the product version and a white balance, but I didn't touch any of those.

Don't you think that Sony wouldn't put anything on the TV that if changed, can stuff it up? I'm sure that would be the logical thing to do. It could be a faulty error with the TV when I changed the setting because my TV is a seconds product. (I bought it off ebay and it had been previously repaired). It still has a one year warranty though.

Hangon a minute there captain, the service menu is for technicians it is NOT for end-users to fiddle. Every reference ive seen online as to how to go about getting into the service menu also include warnings that changing settings can permanently destroy your television. Thats the reason you cant just go buy a service manual off the shelf.

Its also why there isnt an option on the user-accessable menus for 'service menu', its why the combination of buttons is very unlikely to be pressed by accident.

This site is filled with warnings about accessing the service menu - for exactly the reason you have discovered - getting in there and fiddling with settings can ruin or damage your tv. You should probably include such a warning on your whirlpool thread so someone doesnt inadvertantly ruin their TV trying to help you out.

Unlikely given it occured as soon as you changed that setting.

Maybe someone has the service manual and can lookup how to do a factory reset. It is also possible that if sony do include a 'factory reset' it may be the same across models made around the same time (like the key combo to get into the service menu). I think owen posted a link to the sxrd service manual in another thread (the sxrd owners thread) - might be worth having a read of that. Warning: The actual menus will be different through models, but there might be a common 'reset' proceedure - dont just go into your service menu and use another models servuce manual as a guide - it wont work like that.

From what is on screen it sounds like you have enabled one of the test screens, do you remember what menu setting you changed?

I would NOT recommend using a “Factory default” mode; it may no do what you expect and could cause more trouble. On some sets factory default does not give you the settings the set was delivered with but a much more basic setup requiring LOTS of further adjustment in many areas.

DO NOT fiddle around without knowing what you are adjusting and why you are adjusting it. Either buy the service manual or call Sony service and have a tech look at it.

Thanks mate, I've learnt my lesson lol. Won't be touching that menu again... EVER. Lol. :)

The exact thing I done was enter the service menu, go to system settings and then went into panel settings. I accidently changed the panel setting to AG 32"(WXGA).

I have a Sony service manual, but it's for the US model.

Most sellers on the web don't have Australian kdl- manuals, but HCSD and Sony's parts supplier would.

I have fixed my TV. Someone gave me the instructions on how to change the panel settings. Thanks for all your help, however, there is still one small problem.

Before I had changed the panel settings or anything, my TV seemed to slowly be getting darker and darker while playing the xbox. I switched of the TV, switched it on the next morning and it was so dark, it was almost impossible to play a game. I fiddled with the settings and used a calibration disc to do that (the calibration disk from halo 3) and it required me to put contrast and brightness almost full! When I first got my TV, it only required it a bit above half way.

I don't think it's the Xbox cause I played it on my dad's TV and it worked fine. Could it be the HDMI ports? Maybe one of the settings. I did a factory reset and a test reset of the TV as soon as I fixed it. Light sensor is off and power is at standard.
