I got a plasma TV and a high definition STB. I am in Mt Druitt area (western part, ie near Blacktown).

I got a problem that my HD STB sometimes can search the Channel 7 and Channel 9 channels, however, when I try to view them the pictures are weired, cannot even view the picture and no sound at all.

Is that means the signals are weak? Any way to know the problem of my antenna or the signal problem?

AlanT,

Can you explain what you mean by "the pictures are weird"?

What brand/model of STB?

Mt Druitt can be a difficult area for digital reception, but ok with the correct antenna optimised for digital channels and installed in the best location on your roof, to provide reliable reception.

Can you provide details of what antenna you are using and how it's connected? Eg: Single combination antenna/apartment complex shared antenna/splitters,amplifiers,number of outlets?

Tho more info you can provide, the better.

The only accurate way to determine if you have a signal issue is to have your signals checked with a digital field strength meter/spectrum analyser.

Hi,

My HD STB is the Onlin OLIN DVBT-2000, most of the time I can view SBS (both HD and non-HD), also ABC has no problems. And TEN is OK.

The 'weired' picture was the picture did not show the picture but lots of green rectangles, sometimes you can see about 5% of the image, and the sound cannot be heard.

I am living in townhouse, the antenna was installed on the roof so I have no idea what brand is the antenna. I plug in the wall outlet with the 'wire' and connect with my STB.

Now I cannot even search the Channel 7 and Channel 9 recently, there are only about 10 channels found. Include SBS only and some radio channels.

AlanT,

There is lots of interference in this area. You need to use a band 3 & 4 antenna only. One which is not designed for analog channel 2. You may also need the larger (number of dBs) antenna.

Read Get the Best Reception, Sydney and read the links.

Hi,

I just noticed if that related to my antenna's problem:

I looked at the roof top antenna found there is a 'wire' or 'lead' hanging down from the antenna. I then looked around my neighbours's antenna the 'wire' or 'lead' should be plugged into the antenna, so I think that would be the problem, may be sometime ago the wind blown the 'lead' out of the socket.

Do you think that is the reason?

Absolutely...

If something is supposed to be connected and it isn't, then that will be a major problem :)
