justin25 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 We just go a new foxtel multi room box put in a bedroom and it was the new iq1 box that they said they were going to roll out.Anyone else got this.Has a hdmi connection which is great.
ray1977 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I can tell you know this box is very hard to get at moment, i recently just got fextel iq installed, and i asked for the pace 480, the installer came didnt have 480 only 460, he rang his other workers, and they didnt have, he picked up more boxes from his store still old 460, rang foxtell to tell them, there customer service is poor, you wait like ages, i spoke to a person, and it was like i dont think you can get the box yet, took me 20mins to convince the person to send out a tech with the new pace480, i will let you know how i go,
Striker Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I got my IQ1 installed about 2 weeks ago and its the new version
ray1977 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Do you use the hdmi interface, is it a better picture

ray1977 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Just got the new iq1 box installed today pace 480, the tech tried to connect hdmi but it wouldnt work, he rang another tech and he said that the hdmi connection can not be used at moment with the firmware foxtel run, is anyone running hdmi, or is this true,
Striker Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Nope I dont use the HDMI output just the regular scart output here
ray1977 Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Nope I dont use the HDMI output just the regular scart output here Have you tried to use the hdmi out, becuase i dont think you can, i have tried, and the installer said foxtel havent set the boxes up to use hdmi with there program, i want to use it but they say i cant, i believe it should be a better picture

loony Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 i believe it should be a better picture The picture quality of the HDMI connection will be identical to that of a component connection. Even carrying HD content, component is just as good as HDMI. they should of updated the software before release When the IQ2 came out it was missing some features as foxtel was waiting for the firmware to be delivered. Foxtel does not write the firmware themselves, the firmware is given to foxtel by Pace, the people who make the STB's

loony Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Well i will just have to wait maybe get iq2 when they have a special The IQ2 will not be on special anytime soon. It is too new. You are not missing out on anything by not currently having HDMI on the IQ1.5
Michkel Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I had another multi room IQ 1 installed yesterday, the new box... And personally i don't' like it, atm i'm not utilizing the HDMI socket, but looking at the box thats the only thing better about it. It's very compact and hence has the card hanging 20-25mm out the front of it, the transformer isn't' built into it, so you have a chord running from the back of the box about 300mm (which is way to short if you want the box at any height) then you have to have the inline transformer dangling about.

I noticed that when reading the manual. I dont like the idea of a separate transformer for that reason Keep them in the unit

The thing is also that being an SD only box there will not be any additional quality realised with this than using scart to s-video or component. I still think the original iQ with the multiroom output, inbuilt transformer and dedicated s-video output is a better box to have, even just for the looks which are better.
Michkel Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I noticed that when reading the manual.I dont like the idea of a separate transformer for that reason Keep them in the unit Yeah i just don't' understand it, i think there trying to make the box smaller obviously for aesthetics however it's compromised with a stupid dust collecting card hanging out the front. Defiantly keep the transformer in the unit! The thing is also that being an SD only box there will not be any additional quality realised with this than using scart to s-video or component. I still think the original iQ with the multiroom output, inbuilt transformer and dedicated s-video output is a better box to have, even just for the looks which are better. Yeah i realise that with the HDMI, but it keeps thing a bit neater then running the scart plug, pluss i'm trying to look for one positive since i'm stuck with this dam box now Annoyingly they took my old iq1 box (which i prefer) away last week when i upgraded downstairs to iq2. On my iq2 box i also noticed a huge difference between running the HDMI and scart just in the menu, not on any of the HD channels.

I still reckon it is cheap of foxtel to not be able to run these boxes with hdmi, i wonder if you can install the iq2 software onto the new iq1 box, would be interesting.

They will run HDMI otherwise they wouldn't have put it there. They not not need to pay for the circuitry however HDMI and HDCP licensing (money to use the format). They wouldn't have put it there if they didnt intend using it The likely issue is getting the firmware delivered from Pace which is beyond foxtels control
