Lycanthrope Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I've been in Europe for a few weeks and just arrived in Hong Kong. Been disappointed by prices and the dollar hasn't helped. One shop wanted to sell me a BD 30 for 4480 HK (about $860 AUS). Another shop was offering a Samsung BDP 1500 for 3312 HK ($637 AUS) and telling me that it was multi region for Blu ray out of the box. Is this true? I was fairly skeptical. Aren't they cheaper in Australia? I thought they were older models. Both shops were in Ocean Harbour shopping centre. BD movie prices were shocking - cheaper at home! Anyone know a decent place in Kowloon? Wrote some stuff down before leaving home but can't find it and internet at hotel is expensive!

Overpriced to the max. Anything around that area in TST is going to be expensive. Try heading up to Mongkok - and around some of the back streets with the markets (one street west from the main drag Nathan Road) - you MAY find more stores and some better prices. petetherock Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 FYI: A Panasonic BD 35 is SING $699 in Singapore, Samsung BD 1500 is about the same. Both region free for SD DVDs. That should be your bench mark.
DFgunner Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Ocean Habour? the one below Marco Polo hotel? u will ripped big time if buy there.... like <tonyig> said...TST is designed for tourist....and black listed tourist shop arounds... try head up to Mongkok....cheaper price there....try some big electronic chain...their price is reasonable and trustworthy.. or else...a place called...Sham Shui Po (by taxi or MTR..depends on where u staying)...there are a couple of old shopping complex there (1 called golden)..they sell bargain cheap electrical and computer stuff... (btw...i think u can score either model here in HN and JB for under $500 aud easily)
Lycanthrope Posted October 31, 2008 Author Posted October 31, 2008 Thanks everyone. We'll try to get to Monkok or the Golden arcade - we have a late flight tomorrow, and today was Disneyland (for halloween). So I assume the Samsung cannot play all regions bluray.
