Conway Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Hello all I have a few spare 19" Dell LCD monitors after upgrading my PC's. Is it possible to get a set top box that will work with a monitor? I have seen a few with VGA connections, but none of those have a speaker connection. I would have thought most STB would be capable of connecting to a pc monitor but it looks like I was wrong. Any advice would be appreciated.
Rex Nebular Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) The audio would go through RCA or optical. You can get an adapter for $2 to connect RCA to line-in on a sound card or just plug them directly into an AMP/stereo. You could plug PC speakers into the STB directly (depending on your speaker connection) but it may not be loud enough. Edited October 29, 2008 by Rex Nebular
mtv Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 LCD monitors and STB's will work, providing both are matched with the same refresh rates. PC LCD monitors are typically 60Hz, whilst most STB's output 50Hz, so you need to ensure the STB outputs video to match the monitor. I have found only HD STB's produce decent results on PC screens, connected by component or HDMI.
