Garincha Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hi all, I am currently using a Mac mini to play MP3 and FLAC files. I have it connected via optical output to a Pioneer LX60 and I was wondering how much of an improvement in SQ an external DAC would make and how much difference there is between USB & optical and USB DACs. Here's a couple I was looking at from coemaudio, but please feel free to recommend any others http://www.coemaudio.com.au/Sources/DACs/195/ http://www.coemaudio.com.au/Sources/DACs/182/ http://www.coemaudio.com.au/Sources/DACs/178/ Thanks
Juicester Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 the Benchmark Dac 1 USB - (i think it's called) comes very highly commended.

Thanks JC, had a look but I think it's a little out of my price range. I also use my mac mini to ply video so it will also need to pass 5.1 through to the amp I guess.

For the budget end of DACs I would look at the Zhaolu (on the COEM site). Since your receiver is really one large DAC, maybe put the money into upgrading that?
