Just spotted the new yahama 1900 at JB yesterday, priced at 1990. Looked exactly

like the 1800. Was keen on buying the 1800 when it first came out but didn't work out.

Could be a very nice christmas present. :D

$1990 would be very close to the MSRP ... if they don't have any 1800 stock to distract from a haggle, you should get it cheaper than that (hopefully). It will be interesting to hear street prices given what's happening with the AUD$

got mine for $1700 last friday

Turbo56k, Where did you get that from?? I'm in Sydney looking for a receiver (cos I've never had one before) to connect paradigm monitor 9s. Steve from Eastwood Hifi said $1890.

Sorry I'm new here, and new to the whole home theatre scene. Just had one of those stupid Sony all in one hifi systems for about 10 years which still works but since I've heard Yamaha/Paradigm, OMG..never going back.

from here mate http://absolutehifi.com.au/

Tried getting them to $1600, but no luck.

I don't know how good the yamaha/paradigm. But for the money I recommend you to look at the SVS range speakers. Especially they are having a run out at the moment on the speakers/sub combination. Check them out at deephzaudio.com

I was looking at the RX-V863 among others with the RX-V1900 not really in mind.

However i managed to get the 1900 down to $1500 cash. Looking forward to playing with this one :D

have just replaced a RX-V1600 with the 1900 but has some new features i,m not too keen on, the inputs on the old setup were better for my system ,as in it was set up for a set top box input and not internal TV tuner input , just meant the inputs were spot on as the remote was set out without any renaming. Also the new model does not automatically keep video displayed when you select an audio input ,instead you have to assign a video source with the audio input, this is stupid as i often keep video going and play either radio or CD, beats listening to one eyed commentators, but do not want to have to go into the menu to change the source.Small changes I know but if its not broken why try to fix it!

Hmm, my 3800 doesn't have those issues you describe either? When I kick in the radio the video keeps going from whatever was watched last. You can remap any input to any selection, so maybe you just need to remap? When I first plugged everything into my 3800 (about 6weeks ago now) I setup things how I thought they should be, and then read the manual a bit more, and re-did the whole setup as I realised I could map it all out a lot better to different selections.

I thought the 1900 was only a small baby step difference to the 1800 which is essentially the 3800 with a bit less power and a few less features (e.g. multiple zones... but certainly not the remapping stuff). I tried the 1900 receiver manager software, and it is 95% the same as the 3800 receiver manager software.

The TV input on the 1900 is only audio ,the 1600 had a DTV audio /video input, I think this changed on the 1800 with the addition of the BD/DVD option,The input menu of the 1900 now has a function called BGV (background video) where you assign the video to the audio ,unfortunately there isnt an option to select all, I have the Beyonwiz P2 so can use that to have tv or foxtel from the one source but is a compromise from the previous setup, I wonder if this is a change that comes out with the 3900 also.

Hmmm ... definitely sounds like a step backward ... what happens if you don't assign a BGV (perhaps it then displays the last vid source selected like the 3800 does??)

Tonymy01: Do you know if you can remap the analog video input (where the HDMI video input for that input is being used) to a separate an audio input (like Tape)? I don't use the "Tape" input and would like to hook up a second VCR by pinching the analog video inputs from another source where only the HDMI is being used.

Frenchtoast -where did you get the RX-V1900 from?

I am looking for one in Sydney.

- I was going to buy the RX-V863 but the programmable remote decided me.

From a JB Hi-Fi in Melbourne. Went in letting them know there was a choice between about 5 or 6 different receivers, i was paying cash and gave the impression i knew what i was talking about. Bargained from $1995 to $1750 to $1630 and finally $1500 because i wanted it then and there.

Maybe I should requalify my statement. The (video) mapping flexibility is quite large, but only for component and HDMI. Normal inputs without video connectors can't have any kind of remapping.

So I have my TV mapped to DTV (Toslink only for the TV of course, optical mapping is very flexible), Beyonwiz to DVR (HDMI and optical and 2 channels of audio and multichannel audio), Topfield to VCR (component and svideo), and Samsung BR to BD/HD DVD (HMDI).

I originally thought I had to match the selection types with the lables on the connectors, but really you are free to map component and HDMI vid to anything with video connections, and toslink/optical/coax to anything it appears so far.

I was in JB in melbourne on the weekend and asked casually what price they could do on the Yamaha Rx1900 and was told $1650 if i was to buy it that day so yeh sounds like $1500 could be posible with haggling.

im wondering if anyone has had a chance to run one with a ps3 and see if it suffers from the hd audio stream issues that have been hampering a few other recievers of late.

I didn't think the PS3 streamed any HD audio. It only decodes all audio to multichannel PCM (for HDMI), and thus you won't be able to take advantage of these HD audio codecs in the amp at all.

Hi frenchtoast,

I was wondering if you'd be able to scan your receipt for the RX-V1900 at JB Melbourne? If you're not happy to do that (which would be understandable - you did the haggling afterall!), would you mind giving me some tips when I go in to JB to haggle for the RX-V1900? I live in Canberra, and given the low competition, it's very hard to get people to drop prices at all here!

Thanks very much,

Phil

Thanks Frenchtoast,

Will let you know how I go. I am in no hurry so will chase around in the next week for a good price.

Al least I know what the bottom line price is.

Bing Lee Belconnen offered $1600 without much haggling. I think it was HN who also offered to get one in for $1600 a couple of weeks ago just on the phone. I'm still wondering whether to get one before the dollar pushes the price up, or go for a 3900 (however that looks like being a huge jump in price).

There is a setting to fix this on the 1900, but i'm away from home right now. I had the same concern, but found the answer in the manual....could've been speaker settings, or in the area where you manually setup your speakers....i'll find it when I get home & get back to you.
