Hey

I am looking for a second Blu-Ray player for our bedroom and I dont want to spend a lot. When I saw out and about on the weekend I saw some LG & Samsung players for $250-300. Some were demo models and some were, I guess older models which were still new in box.

Can you guys please point me in the right direction for which players are good and which players to stay away from.

Thanks

I can't tell you which one to get, but I can tell you which one not to get - Samsung BD-P1500.

I've had one of these for two months, it doesn't play half my DVDs or CDs and the discs it does play skip and stall. I've spoken to their Tech Support over a month ago and they said they'd send a DVD with a firmware update which would fix it, but as of today, they still don't know when the firmware will be available.

There seem to be quite a lot of new Samsung BDP-1500s on Ebay. Many people received them as a Freebie with a new LCD or Plasma and don't seem to want a Blu-Ray at this stage.

They are current models and seem to sell for around $300.

I thought the Panasonic BD30 might be getting down to that price these days but not really sure.

It's a pretty good player I reckon.

That was pretty optimistic on my part cause when I searched around all I could find was one that went recently for $350 2nd hand.

For the bedroom? Yikes!! :)

Heheh, my four year old asked me yesterday if she could get a Bluray player for her bedroom.

ROFL it's only just recently that I've got her to stop calling them "Blu movies" after some odd Q's from the peeps at childcare. It's just so wrong on so many levels - I'm surprised we havn't had the long arm of the law come a knocking on the front door!

What are you using in the main room? Upgrade that and throw the other player in the bedroom.

Sony S350 FTW ATM I think! Sharp seems to be the budget player in the mix but I think you generally get what you pay for. The Sammy 1500 seems cheap also but has also been dissed.

+1. Don't bother with the Samsung rubbish. The Panasonic BD30 is a mighty fine unit, and I have set up many Sony BPD-S350 players with great results. The Sharp is a very basic & slow unit, but if you can get one cheap enough go for it!
