Dr No Comparison Pics

Featured Replies

It's been mentioned a few times in various threads, could the blu-ray of Dr No be as good as the recent DVD special edition. A few have indicated they don't think it could get much better. Well we have the answer now:

Enjoy.

Thanks to Xylon of AVS for these pics.

I think it's fair to say they good pritty good. It is hard to believe how good the ultimate dvd edition is though. It's only one or two steps down and you need to have a good look at the picture to see a real difference.

After seeing those screenshots, I'll be sticking with my Ultimate DVD set for a while.

Very negligible difference especially when you look at the cost. I paid $220 for the Ultimate set a few years ago and I'd have to spend almost half that just for 6 of them on Blu Ray.

I can understand sticking with them considering the original cost and then the upgrade cost, but those differences are not negligable. The extra detail is amazing.

Oh I do see a difference, what I meant was that the extra price doesn't justify it. For someone that doesn't own the DVD set it would probably be worth it.

Looking evry briefly at the first screenshot, the first things that jumped out at me were the marked difference in the wrinkles on 'Bond's' forehead and the hair on the back of his hand.

The second picture....well, i won't go there. :P

I noticed improvement in the background area of the shots, objects that were blurry in the ultimate dvd was quite clear in the BR also the colours were better, more vibrant.

Nice quality but not enough to make me spend again to upgrade from the Ultimate dvd

I wanna get these bond movies. My mates in the states cant get the movies to work on their BR players. Thats a big prob with BR, people just wanna relax & watch there fav movie without dealing with the BS of movies not playin. There wasnt this prob with dvds.

There seems to be a bunch of players that are having playback issues with the Bond BD's

James Bond Playback Issues for Blu Ray Players

cheers

And one that isn't of course so the thread quickly turns into the usual PS3 love/**** fest.

US$29.99 a disk, at least we're not the only ones being screwed on Blu-ray pricing.

Hard to argue with the increase in picture quality though.

And DTS HD MA, Warner please take note.

Thanks for the link momaw, as one of those cynics who felt that the Blu-ray release wouldn't offer that much over the very good Ultimate Edition it may well appear that I might have been a tad premature in my thinking, although I'd still like to see it with my own eyes as JPEG screenshots always tend to flatten out images and rarely do the source justice. Having said that the comparison screens of that scene with Ursula Andress emerging from the Sea clearly shows a lot more texture detail especially in the foreground if you look at the sand. Although normally I wouldn't be paying that much attention to the sand....
