the onkyo 876 will be in the shops within the next few weeks is anyone considering buying one . pros cons ?

Good news: it hasn't been despecced compared to the 875 (unlike the 806, which has been gutted).

Bad new: almost no change from the 875 - looks like its picked up a plus rating on the THX Ultra2 certification and an ISF calibration facility in the video processing.

Probably better value in getting a run-out 875 at the right price (or if you're happy to pass through video without upscaling go for an 805) and put the savings towards other goodies. B)

It will be a waste the money for me to get 876 since I have already got a 805 last year, a multi-channel power amp with 400 watts a channel six channel and DVDO video processor taking care of the video processing. If I have this sort of spare money it will be going towards a some tube monoblock and a tube pre-amp.

Seems that 08/09 round of AVR's aren't offering much in the way of upgrades from their previous models. No new codecs I suppose.

It all seems to be extra HDMI connectivity and networking stuff, I doubt there will be any major advances in SQ.

so has anyone got pricing on a 876?

Retail on the 876 is $3399, going up to over $4000 later this month or early 2009. You should be able to pick one up for around $2950 if the dealer has existing stock or can get it before the price rise. Makes the superseded 875 look good however (same sound, different video section) running out anywhere from $1699 to $1899. Check the specials pages on some of the HiFi store web sites.

Hi guys, i am in the States at the moment.

Saw 876 going for around 1000 USD at the moment -- that's around 1600 AUD.

It's no doubt a fine piece of machine, but I wonder if a US bought receiver can work in Aus? (i know i need a step up/down tranformer to the least)

I understand that TV bought from US won't work in Aus, I am hoping a receiver is a different story.

cheers!

I imported an 805 from the US a couple of years ago.

You need a very hefty step-down transformer and the tuner (Receiver)

will not work on Austalian/NZ radio stations.

The frequency steps are wrong and cannot be adjusted.

Other than that it works OK.

You might get caught for excess baggage (weight?) and duty?

Thanks crtlover!

I'd imagine the step-down transofrmer will not cost too much (less than Optimus Prime from Toy R'us ?:P) and i hardly listen to radio outside my car, so that's not a prob.

So crtlover, from your experience with your 805, there was no issues taking input from say, your NZ bluray player -> 805 -> NZ TV? I am just worried about display frequency.

And no other issues at all right?

just wanna make sure ;)

Yeah, weight and duty.... i am hoping to use my company's Fedex account to ship, apparently only cost less than $100 w/ insurance, so not too bad. and hopfully it will go through Custom this way as well....

Merry Xmas

2400.00

that is a good price.

Recently jb had the 875 for 2300..obviously prior to haggling. As I am planning to buy an AVR the 875 or the 876

are at the top of the preffered list.

Where did you buy yours from?
