digitalj Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 (edited) According to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), the sales of Blu-ray Disc players and recorders in Japan represented 31% of the total market from October 2007 through September 2008. The represents a 10,700% increase in Blu-ray shipments in Japan from a year ago, which has driven a 4.5% increase in the consumer electronics market in general. In other words, Blu-ray is here to stay. source: http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1972 If this is really true, then OMG! a 10,700% Increase! also it's already at 31% of overall sales in Japan , maybe the same thing could happen here? Hopefully this might also help to bring prices down to more acceptable levels here to allow Blu-ray to compete better against DVD. Edited October 24, 2008 by digitalj

I heard on the news yesterday that Sony has issued a profit warning and share price took a 20% dive on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. With the world economy especially western developed nations including Japan, looking bleak and probably won't improve for some years. Consumer spending will be severe contracted esp on non essential goods. I won't be too optimistic on the bright future of blu-ray trumpeted by blu-ray.com Lets hope some companies will not slash and burn their blu-ray project or delay release of new model On another thought bad time might force the studio to lower the price to increase sales - so there is Hope
