Networker Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hi all. I'm a complete noob when it comes to projectors and need your help. I have a young son and would llke to project the stars onto the ceiling of his room at night. I have the software side of things sorted (Celestia running on a laptop - http://www.shatters.net/celestia/) and need to get a projector. It would be operating in complete darkness and would only need to project the image about three meters. Resolution would need to be 800 x 600 and the unit would need to be reasonably quiet. Can anybody suggest an appropriate projector for this. I don't want to spend a pile of cash so perhaps a second hand unit? Thanks.
Foggy Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Unless you need the projector for some additional room heating, I'd suggest you consider an alternative approach for this project. The projector will have fan noise, project too much light (remember that digital projectors, especially cheaper ones can't project true black), and the lamps are too expensive for the application that you're using it for (a new lamp is anywhere between $400 and $1200 every 2000 to 3000 hours). I'd recommend looking at something like this instead: http://www.nightsky3d.com/

pgdownload Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 There's also those neat glow in the night star stickers you could buy a couple of packs of. Seriously, 'young son' is synomic with 'that was last week' Regards Peter Gillespie
