sulimo Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 So with recent arcade prices and this recent deal, I've return to the fold as it were. Anyway I'm wondering if anyone else has put in for this offer from Microsoft. Now I've heard that in the U.S. people are already getting their orders fullfilled. Now I put my order in on Friday and haven't heard anything, aside from a brief note acknowledging my order.
sulimo Posted October 22, 2008 Author Posted October 22, 2008 What deal? The deal is that for $35 arcade owners get a 20GB HDD and 3 months of XBL gold membership.
Juniorsenior Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 The deal is that for $35 arcade owners get a 20GB HDD and 3 months of XBL gold membership. www.xboxstorageupgrade.com I tried to sign up for this but was told my arcade console is inelgible having had a HDD attached at some point. Pretty narrow scope really. Apparently, according to xbox support, because I have a pro console and arcade console and I shared my Pro HDD with my arcade console i am deemed to be ready for the new xbox live experience.

I hadn't heard about this upgrade. I just recently replaced my 360 with an arcade ( due to the red rings ) and put my existing hard drive on it. I must check to see whether I can get a free hard drive. Anyone want to buy a 20gb hard drive going cheap - never used!

Now I put my order in on Friday and haven't heard anything, aside from a brief note acknowledging my order. I purcahsed an Arcade console a couple of weeks back after my PS3 needed repairs. I had no idea about the storage upgrade deal, but a few days later I stumbled across an article on Engadget. I thought that that it would probably be only for the US, but it seems to be a world-wide offer. So last week I successfully registered my console, and for $34.99 I will receive a refurbished 20GB HDD and 3 months Gold on Live. Considering I was looking at a refurb HDD on ebay for $70, I would have a bit more confidence getting one directly from MS. (and for half the price) I have no idea when to expect the delivery - I ssume they will try and get it to customers prior to the NXE date in Australia. I too have only received a brief email acknowledging the order.
own-goal Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 ordered one yesterday, does anyone know how long it takes to be delivered
own-goal Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 some fella on whirlpool got a tracking number for his. has anyone else got a tracking number

sulimo Posted October 24, 2008 Author Posted October 24, 2008 Well mine turned up this morning unannounced. I must say I'm really surprised to see how little of the 20GB you get once all the junk is removed.
davep Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 sounds to me like youre just greedy. Hardly. He has an Arcade console, arcade consoles are eligible for an upgrade, and he doesnt get one - sounds more like he is getting screwed.
varvs Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hardly. He has an Arcade console, arcade consoles are eligible for an upgrade, and he doesnt get one - sounds more like he is getting screwed. he already has a console with a hard drive and he has attached it to his arcade console. sure its bad luck that he didnt know about that BEFORE attaching it, but really, you cant play both at once so if you have two consoles 1 hard drive between the two, porting all your saves/data across isnt that bad of an idea in the first place. at least that way youre only paying for content once.
Guest clay_tone Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Hardly. I agree - just because there was a HDD attached at some point it renders the console ineligible for the upgrade. And its not like MS are giving them away - we are still paying $35 for 20GB of disk space. Whats not to say that one 360 is for the kids and the other for himself - sharing a HD amongst 2 360's suddenly becomes a pain in the backside. I do understand that MS will be releasing the 60GB HDD for retail, at a more realiistic price - around $100 - but I could be way off with my info.

Well I signed up for this deal last week after I bought my arcade console as a replacement for a failed xbox 360. the thing is, I have my previous 120GB hard drive on it, registered the console and ported my license over to the new arcade console BEFORE I ordered the MS deal. So it can't be simply that you have put a hard drive on the 360 that makes it ineligible, as mine has been on for two weeks before I ordered the drive. who knows what their criteria is! EDIT: I just received my package in the mail yesterday. Hard Drive and 3 months xbox live! Edited October 27, 2008 by Purpleax
own-goal Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 just got mine today from the post office. they came yesterday and i wasnt home. ordered on wednesday night got it tuesday really. so good service
Juniorsenior Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 sounds to me like youre just greedy. I beg to differ. MS support are working out something for me now. Its basically an admission that I am entitled to one. Its not about being greedy. I have an arcade box and would like to upgrade given this deal is a good offer. Its not like I am trying to punch my pro serial number through the website to scam an additional hdd. But given that the new live experience pretty much requires a hdd I thought I'd take it up. Suppose I swapped my arcade console with my brother for his PS3 over christmas. How's he supposed to get onto the new live? I'm upgrading to make sure they are both able to connect to the upcoming new live.

Not sure if you read a previous post of mine, but I was in the same situation as you - placed my 120gb hard drive on the 360 and ported my licenses over to it - and I qualified for the deal straight away. So if I qualified for it, then you definitely should do as well ! And it wasnt greed for me either - my repaired xbox came back and I threw the 20gb drive on it and now have a nice second bedroom 360!

I too sent them an email just politely asking whether everything was still ok - no response. No hurry, but its always unusual when others receive theirs well before you, after placing their orders much later. Actually reminds me off just about every redemption/cash back/giveaway offer that I have ever participated in!

The support person asked me to call the hotline no and take it up with them. No surprise here with good ol MS support service. They could easily just forwarded the mail to the appropriate dept (if so) if they dont want to deal with it. Who knows, but again, its no drama to me, but like u, it would be nice to hear some sort of confirmation.
achjimmy Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Is this deal for the earlier arcades with 128mb cards or all including the new ones?
Guest clay_tone Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Is this deal for the earlier arcades with 128mb cards or all including the new ones? I would assume any 360 that was not bundled with a HDD. My Arcade was only purchased 4 weeks ago, came bundled with 256MB MU, and I qualified for the upgrade. However, there have been some reports world-wide that once you attach the HDD to the 360, and jump on live, MS then assume you have a HDD and enough storage for the new Xbox experience. Too bad if that HDD was borrowed, off another 360 you own etc. Alot od people with the core/arcade consoles are finding themselves ineligible for the upgrade because at some stage in the life of their 360, a HDD was connected.
HeDanny Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) I am sorry to hear about the delays some people are enduring. I received mine less than a week after I ordered. In fact, it arrived a day before the email from Microsoft confirming the shipment with tracking details. heh. As I special little surprise, the HDD seems practically prand new to me. I was expecting some second hand looking scuffed up thing. It does not have a single blemish on it at all, and even the protective film is still attached to the silver logo! There is a small sticker on the underside that says "refurbished by Microsoft" or something simillar so it is not new.. just.. in as new condition. I hope when your units arrive thay are the same. Oh there is a few gb of propaganda rubbish on there too. A demo for LEGO STAR WARS 2, about 14 live arcarde games, over 40 gamer pics, some videos, some themes.. oh! If anyone decides they no longer have any need for their MU once their HDD arrives please let us know. I (and others?) may take them off your hands. Edited November 5, 2008 by HeDanny
