Hey all,

I have a 10 metre coaxial cable running from my wall outlet to my lcd, long I know but I am trying very hard to minimise costs at the moment after spending more than I wanted to on a tv and sound system!

I bought a cheap 10 metre cable for $30 from Harvey Norman, some guy told me I should get a better quality cable but I figured it was just salesman talk so I just went with the cheap option. Now I'm regretting this somewhat because although the reception on most channels is excellent, Channel 10 however is a nightmare. Sound cuts out and picture gets blotchy sometimes, on both 10 digital and 10 HD.

Is this most likely a cable issue? The Samsung inbuilt details say signal strength is around the 50 mark, and bit error is around 8. Channel 7 works pretty well and it has a bit error level of 0 and signal strength is around 83.

If it is a cable issue, what is the best value cable I could get, want to spend as little as possible but that still does the job. Otherwise what other issues could it be?

obs0lete,

If it is an antenna problem then;

Go to the Geographic Viewers’ Forum, which is near the bottom of the main forum’s home page. Select your region and read the pinned post “Get the Best Reception”. Please post any further correspondence in that strand for all in your region to see. I will see it anyway. You could also search your location in that strand for others in your area.

The answers depend on what transmitters you are trying to receive and what you are using now to receive the signal.

So on the appropriate forum state your location and whether you are using a roof antenna, indoor antenna or from an antenna system in a block of apartments.

Cheap flyleads can certainly cause problems.

Here's something on this topic posted some time ago.
