hazzad Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/125825,...ped-bluray.aspx INteresting development. Love to know how they get around any copy protection(ala anydvd hd). Plus no mention of full HD audio codec support though the 6500a states it will be avialable in a future firmware update so suspect this would be the same. Pretty hefty price at $599 though.

Yes, DVICO is working on this and expect the new firmware for this to be available in mid to late November. If you shop around you will find better prices right now
sold Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Wouldn't it be up to the user to get around the copy protection in order to rip the disc in the first place, so then there would be no need for the DViCO to do anything in this regard?

You can rip a bluray with all copy protection intact, but i started to assume after i posted that they would presume that you have taken measures to remove all copy protection. I guess the dvd iso playback component would work the same way. Love to know how well it works. Will have to keep an eye out for this one. Edited October 19, 2008 by hazzad

renura Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Yeah thats what i started to assume after i posted. IM guessing they assume you rip the image removing all copy protection. Will have to keep an eye out for this one.The devices are already out and you can soon play with the beta firmware if you are keen. As far as I am aware they are the same units, the 6500A already plays 1080p and all sorts of HD files.

I got the impression it was a completely different unit. The acticle is comfusing in that it picutres the 2330 with a bluray yet it doesnt mention that it can actually play blurays, only the 6500.
renura Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Yes, only the 6500a will do that, the 2230 (cute little unit BTW) supports up to 1080i, but it can also play ripped std DVDs

Do you nkow any more info about it and what restrictions there are? Will it support full disc playback, menus, extras, movie, or just the movie?

Brami Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 To follow this up. I have ripped over 20 Bluray DVD and been playing them with no hussles, the picture quality is fantastic.
Widescream1503559516 Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Did you rip Bluray using AnyDVD and did you rip the files or create an image?
Vortical Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Did you rip Bluray using AnyDVD and did you rip the files or create an image? I think it's pretty mandatory to use AnyDVD If you want a proper procedure for ripping and getting the movie into a playable format right now see this guide http://mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums...pic&t=18079
Widescream1503559516 Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 Thanks a lot for that. Does anyone know if it would also work for HD-DVD discs? On that forum I found a post which describes how to play SD-DVD's on your PC by mounting the optical drive and then sharing it. So the Tvix-hd 6500 can play them from the PC's optical drive without ripping. http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Fo...pic&t=12528 I wonder if a similar method will be available for Blu-Ray in the future?

Hosko Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 I just bought a 6500a for $500 and the picture quality is exceptional. I hope they keep pumping out the firmware updates quickly. They say they are working on TrueHD, DTS HD MA pass-through using HDMI. When that happens this will be a truly awesome player. Streams off the network great. Now I just need to get on and build my killer NAS
hazzad Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 To follow this up. I have ripped over 20 Bluray DVD and been playing them with no hussles, the picture quality is fantastic. I assume you just ripped the m2ts stream and played that? I d like to know if the full BD .iso playback had been implemented yet?

I use component out and it's perfectly fine on my 1080i Sony KVHR36M31 16:9 CRT. Currently using 1.3.55 beta firmware
Widescream1503559516 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks for that. I have the exact same TV (but in 76cm ). Perhaps the person who posted their assessment was using an early firmware and/or had a dodgy TV or bad eyesight. Hopefully my new toy will be delivered today.
Brami Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I assume you just ripped the m2ts stream and played that? I d like to know if the full BD .iso playback had been implemented yet?Yes that is correct, m2ts files. I wasnt's aware that you could rip them to .iso.
ajm1503559545 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Yes that is correct, m2ts files. I wasnt's aware that you could rip them to .iso. Using AnyDVDHD you have the choice to either rip to files or to an .iso. Lyle has tried playing .isos on the PCH but without success. He reckons he got the one .ts he tried to work ok which is good news though.
