petetherock Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) Mates, I never quite thought it would come to this... I travel a lot and have been sharing news of treasures overseas to as many people in Oz so everyone can benefit, and I am glad that many have benefitted.. Now the strange thing is happening, my friends in places in Singapore and HKG are asking me if it is worthwhile to ship FROM Oz to their homes! And I have less experience doing this, so can anyone help? TVs are considered dirt cheap in Oz compared to these places, and DVD boxsets are not too shabby too when they are on offer in Big W. I hear that a Pioneer LX 508 can be had for Aus $4200 or less, can anyone help with the shipping or know how I can help someone send something of this size to Singapore? Also if anyone knew the cheapest price, either on the East or West side, it does not matter so long as they ship, please let me know. Thanks Pete Edited October 16, 2008 by petetherock
Shonky* Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Yeah TVs are mega expensive over there. Still cheaper to import for high end AVRs etc though even with the dollar tanking. Sorry, I can't much lot of advice on shipping, but a 50" plasma comes in a pretty damn big box. When you start getting that big, I expect you'll get into weight by volume. i.e. even though it only weighs 40 or 50kg you might pay for 100kg or 150kg due to volume.
Guest EZYHD Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I've shipped small items to Asia, cost was double if going the other way back to OZ.
petetherock Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Wonder if it makes a difference if I ship from Perth rather than Sydney?
Shonky* Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Well it's a shorter distance but it may be more dependent on the volume/amount of shipping though. i.e. even though Perth is closer, the sheer volume between Sydney and Singapore might make it cheaper. Are you thinking air or sea?
sila1999 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Stand at Changi and watch the trucks arrive at the departure termminals full of LCD's mainly Sony's. they are all headed to India. Last week whilst standing there waiting to check in there were 6 guys checking to heir flight and they must of had at least 60 LCD's with them. They run it as a business and get paid to bring them back as Singapore is the cheapest place to buy, if you have freinds in Singapore tell them to go to Mustafa's they are usually 40% cheaper than the prices in Sim Lim Square or other retail areas.
petetherock Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Mustafa is at least 50 to 60% more costly than most places in Oz... Well I guess the cheapest, but if air is cheaper I can pay for it it it costs less than 1k... for a 50" plasma or the like Anyone can help with contacts, please let me know
