oxblood8 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Hi All, I just bought a PS3 from a seller who got the console via the Sony Bravia offer. I know a lot of these have been sold in this manner and I was just wondering what people have done regarding warranty? Should I get a copy of the receipt of the bravia TV from the seller or should they have a receipt from Sony for the PS3 separate?
Mr.Bitey Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) Generall speaking (I dont know the specifics of the sony redemtion process/paperwork): You need to check the warranty terms/conditions in the manual (or sepeate warranty doco) with the ps3 to see if the warranty is transferable <- very important - if its transferable give them a call to find out how and get it done. If its not transferable, your in trouble EDIT: If it doesnt say specifically "Not transferable' then it should be transferable - still contact them to find out how to do it. Generally you'd get a copy of the receipt for the ps3, however given its a redemption, i'd get the receipt for the TV and any redemption related documentation. People also talk about having the original owner arrange a warranty call for the unit - eg. pretend its still theirs... or worse still pretend you are the original owner (as may be printed in the receipt/registered against that tv and likely recorded @ sony as having recieved that ps3 via redeption) this is a type of fraud and probably not such a good idea but that doesnt stop people doing it. So 1. transfer it to you (if it doesnt say specifically its non-transferable); otherwise get all the associated doco and hope you never have to initiate your warranty - cos it probably wont be straight forward! Having just spent days dealing with Sony and their Playstation warranty - I can say that they do the absolute minimum required by law. If consumer law anywhere states that warranties only apply to the first owner, then be sure that Sony will enforce that. Some companies act on good will etc to help out customers, or offer longer warrnties for known faults (MS/RROD). My PS3 was 26 days out of warranty when I contacted Sony about their repair* program. Even though my fault was common (busted laser), they would not offer 'good-will' and offer repair* for free under warranty, or even at a discount. No matter how many people I spoke to - $315 flat fee for their repair*. So what did I do? Went out yesterday and purchased an xbox360 arcade, took advantage of MS offering a refurbished 20GB HDD (plus 3 months Gold Live) for $35 for the launch of the new 'Live', and sent my PS3 to a non-Sony repair shop for repairs that will cost half of Sony's quote. * Sony repairs consist of sending you back a refurbished unit, that they claim to 'match as closely as possible the age, model & condition of your original console'
