SDL Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 This dumb: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1806687.ece Watch the video of someone thinking it is a great idea to slide down the pylon of a bridge. Seems fun for several metres
mcduck Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 won't be watching the clip but his friends must really feel awful and his family total waste of a life through an act of stupidity
kulfi Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Is it my imagination or have we seen more of these idiots after Jackass and YouTube showed up ? The funniest harmless clip I had seen (on MTV) was "Wokboarding". A guy sits in a big wok, then slides down ramps or slopes or stairs. Stupid but funny.
DrP Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 (edited) You've probably seen more of them simply because youtube makes it so easy to publish them. There's always been idiots, now everyone can see their idiocy. Edited October 15, 2008 by DrP
Mr.Bitey Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I see a couple of problems. 1. He thaught he could stay on - even tho he had no means to control his position on the beam (unless he was using his hands holding onto to the sides?) 2. He didnt think it was going to get bad friction burns or just lose a heap of skin through abrasion 3. He didnt consider the end-velocity (how the f'k am I gunna stop at the bottom) Trying to sit up to avoid youd gut getting burnt was his downfall.. Sheesh.. Cheers, Splattey
myrantz Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 No name, no interview from friends or police, just a country, no location, no name of bridge. Sounds suspect, but google and there's a second part of the video.. Maybe it's fake (scene from some faces of death video)... If this is real, it's as stupid as some of the things I see people do on the road sometimes.

50mxe20 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Don't know if you know The Sun but don't expect too many facts Like the young guy in Die Hard said. The news is totally manipulated.A bit of my natural cynicism suggests to me that he may be right!
The D-Train Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I was waiting for George Costanza to come into the story and say "thats where I come in, on the splat" (if youre not a Seinfeld fan this will mean nothing.)
stahc Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I was waiting for George Costanza to come into the story and say"thats where I come in, on the splat" (if youre not a Seinfeld fan this will mean nothing.) my dear fellow..............didn't you realise he's busy with the "Penski File"
swordfish805 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Don't know if you know The Sun but don't expect too many facts With the Sun (and most London tabloids) the most reliable things are usually on page 3 - and they're usually fake.

mwd Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 With the Sun (and most London tabloids) the most reliable things are usually on page 3 - and they're usually fake. Another Rupert Murdoch publication caters for the dumb s***s of the world and they cannot even wrap fish and chips up in newspapers anymore. Although still get plastic knives and glass wine bottles on flights into Australia and we think we are smart until you hit the arrivals hall.
Brendon Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 (edited) I kinda hope its not a fake as I am a darwinist at heart. Cant help thinking all those signs telling you not to do very obviously fatal/stupid things will not help the human race in the long run. Brendon Edited November 1, 2008 by brendonc
Austen Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 On a different note to the "Bridge Guy", but sticking with the "How dumb Can Someone Be" topic.............. You may remember Timothy Leslie McCormack, the Qantas "engineer" who faked his licence......... A FORMER Qantas engineer responsible for safety checks on 747s has admitted faking credentials in order to advance his career. Timothy Leslie McCormack, 26, pleaded guilty in the District Court to 42 charges relating to carrying out maintenance work on Qantas planes without a licence, forging a Civil Aviation Safety Authority licence and falsifying exam results to "dishonestly obtain a gain". It is understood many of the 747-400s he worked on regularly flew on long-haul routes to Europe and the United States. McCormack, who earlier denied the charges, was due to face trial yesterday before he changed his plea. Australian Federal Police originally accused him of 111 offences, including carrying out nearly 2000 maintenance jobs on 88 aircraft between September 2006 and July 2007. McCormack yesterday pleaded guilty to just 30 charges out of a reduced total of 44 counts of carrying out maintenance work on Qantas aircraft without a licence. He also tearfully admitted to five counts of falsifying his CASA exam results and five counts of knowingly using the sham results to "dishonestly induce Qantas to accept (they were) genuine and by that acceptance to dishonestly obtain a gain." Well...... Timothy was back in court this week for sentencing, and as you do, you try to convince the judge that you are contrite, that you have learnt your lesson and maybe even produce a reference (or four) saying what a good bloke you are ......... Fake Qantas engineer offers false references to judge A MAN who admitted faking qualifications to land a job doing safety checks on Qantas jets also faked the character references supplied to the sentencing judge. Timothy Leslie McCormack, 27, pleaded guilty in September to 42 charges in the New South Wales District Court, including forging a maintenance engineer's licence. In court today, it was revealed that four character references McCormack had tendered ahead of his sentencing hearing were fakes. Among the false letters of support was one from a fictional Senior Sergeant Woodward, who was said to also be president of the Hornsby Junior Australian Rules Football Club. "There is no Football Club by that name," prosecutor Paul McGuire said. Judge Mark Marien was told that the other three references, purportedly from a school counsellor and members of the community, were also created by McCormack. Judge Marien said it was "so obvious" that they were typed and formatted the same way and signed by the same hand. "What has occurred in these sentencing procedures is in my experience, an extraordinary event," he said. Not all Qantas engineers are THAT dumb !!! Stay tuned for Part III where we learn if Tim gets to share a cell with Bubba, and how long for. Does he have to bring his own pillow....and other "needs" ?? Austen.

Whats more damaging all the recent mishaps or the fact this guy was employed by them in the first place ? My heart goes out to all the troops on the front line at the Big Q hopefully things will calm down soon . I have a nasty feeling though that the media frenzy will not end until QANTAS is completely rooted which seems to be their intention. Quick fix would be send all the aircraft to Jetstar at least they would have to change headlines then. At least the fuel costs should drop and the greedy morons were foiled in the sell off . Cheers Brendon
