Procrastinator Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hey guys, Just wanted to ask a question regarding where to plug what for the best sound out of my DENON 4308.. My situation is this, i have a 5.1 speaker set up and i do not have the room for rear speakers so i have set up speakers on both sides of the couch as surrounds so should i plug my surround speakers into the surround outputs on the AVR or should i plug them into the rear outputs even though they are not in the rear position....? Im not sure wether plugging into the surrounds rather than the rears will eliminate proper surround effects as most soundtracks are 5.1 any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Procrastinator
Guest Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Use surround, not surround back ditto ... then set it as 5.1 and your receiver should do the rest .. having had a 7.1 and now a 6.1 setup, whilst noticeable, the back channel(s) aren't worth knocking a wall down for. In my opinion 5.1 is still pretty dam good. Then again I am yet to hear any of the new formats in 6/7.1. Chops
Shonky* Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Correct. "Surround A" to be precise. Page 9 of the manual....
Procrastinator Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 Ok, thanks for clarifying that guys, best to ask when not sure.... Free beer for all..............
Shonky* Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Ok, thanks for clarifying that guys, best to ask when not sure....Free beer for all.............. Don't take this the wrong way, but the manual is always a good place to start When I get something new like a receiver or a car, I'll get the manual and sit down and read it cover to cover. That way I have a very good of what is possible with it.

Shonky* Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 And I bet you ask for directions as well! Nope. I don't see what you're trying to say there. If anything I'd be least likely to ask for directions given my previous statement.
Guest Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Nope. I don't see what you're trying to say there. If anything I'd be least likely to ask for directions given my previous statement. Last time I read a Holden user manual it spent most of the first five pages banging on about what you shouldn't do! Bloody lawyers ... gotta tell everyone that driving may be hazardous to their health! Ceaser was right! ...... Gen Y, Shonky .... if it can't be communicated in a single sentence, of less than ten words, without a comma, they lose focus and fix on the next shiny object. This is why all those Home theaters in a Box come with fold out comics illustrating what to do, as opposed to a proper instruction manual.
