slitko Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Hello guys. I am going to be buying 2 TVs for the new house this month. I am going for the Samsung Series 6 LA52A650 - $3500 and the other TV is the Panasonic TH-58PZ850A - $6690 Now with those TVs do you guys know if I can get them cheaper and where from please? I know there is a new Series 7, 8, 9 Samsung screens coming is it worth waiting for those or just get the 650? I cant find any prices on the new LCDs yet Thanks for the help guys, I am looking to buy last week of this month so any help would be super
pgdownload Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 (edited) I'd be inclined to wait an extra month on the TH-58PZ850A. Install the other TV as your main one in the interim. With the financial 'meltdown' and people possibly not rushing out to by plasmas right at the moment you could see some good discounting shortly. Also you catch the Christmas sales. Panasonic are notorious for huge RRPs that drop hugely on day one and thereafter again. I'd say you could easily knock another $1000+ off the price if you waited a bit longer. One possible issue is supply. If there are only a relative few of these units available and they're in demand then it might be harder. The other option is the obvious one. Drop down from 58" to 50" and you're saving $1000's - but that's up to you and your setup. Also you should find it very easy to get someone to throw in say a free BR player etc. in negotiating rather than a price drop. Good Luck Peter Gillespie Edited October 9, 2008 by pgdownload

Cody Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Never compromise on size! hehehe, a good rule to live by indeed, however i think it depends on what you are going to use them for. for example if the OP is going to use one for movies and the other just for TV and Foxtel, I'd go a large and a not so large respecively. Big tellys can be very unforgiving when it comes to crappy sources and thus a total waste of $$ (especially given the big jump in price for anything above 50"). theres also viewing distances to consider etc.

slitko Posted October 10, 2008 Author Posted October 10, 2008 Yeah I have already decided on the models and size the main issue I have is if you guys know where to get it cheaper The 58inch is going to be the main TV downstairs and is in a big rumpus room that is why I need a big TV. Will be connected to Blu-Ray, Foxtel HD box. The 52inch is going to be the upstairs TV for my consoles and watching TV at night. Will be connected to 360, PS3, Foxtel HD box. Thank you so far guys

diesel Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 the other TV is the Panasonic TH-58PZ850A - $6690 That seems a pretty good price for a TV that has just/is about to land. RRP is $8999, but as PGDownload says, maybe wait a month and see Pana drop their prices (they have a habit of doing this),...though the way the AU$ is falling ATM, it may even rise!
slitko Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 Hey guys What do you think of this TV the LG 60PG30FD? For a 60inch Full HD TV looks very good value for $4300 Would it be a better choice or similar choice to the Panasonic? Would be saving myself around $2500
diesel Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 It's a good value 60" screen, but I'd personally prefer the Pana
slitko Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 OK guys I have changed my mind and will be going for the Pioneer PDP-LX608A. I dont see any difference with the new one KRP600M only thats its thinner. I should be getting it for $8200 from JB HIFI. Has anyone seen it cheaper anywhere else? Is it worth the price premium over the Panasonic TH-58PZ850A in terms of picture quality and features? The thing I like with the Pioneer is the 5 years warranty. I am still going for the Samsung LA52A650 got JB down to $3300 for it Was going to get the new Samsung Series 9 LED screen but its going to be for my games so the LA52A650 will do
great rabbit wall Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 (edited) Pioneer - $8200 including delivery in metro areas is a good deal Samsung - I reckon $3100, and delivery bundled with the above is pretty good. Edited October 20, 2008 by great rabbit wall
slitko Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 OK so I went and spoke to a few stores and I think I am going to be going back to the Panasonic. The reason is that from next year Pioneer will be using Panasonic panels it seems. Best price I got offered for the Panasonic is $5800 with delivery included, sounds good to me. With Home Theatre System what do people think of the Bose V20 or V30 systems for use with the Panasonic? Worth it or waste of money? I am getting the Samsung Blu-Ray Home Theatre system for the Samsung 52incher.
redxiii Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 you should ask that question regarding hi-fi in the home theatre thread. although almost no-one likes BOSE for the price. Id suggest establish a budget for audio and see what the home theatre guys can recommend. regards red
Wags69 Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 With Home Theatre System what do people think of the Bose V20 or V30 systems for use with the Panasonic? Worth it or waste of money? Waste of money, look at a good receiver and some speakers. There is heaps out there like yamaha, onkyo, sony, the list goes on. With speakers there are even more to choose from, I personally have KEF fronts B&W rears and a Paradigm sub.
slitko Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Well I just went and bought my stuff. Got the LG-60PG70FD in the end. It was next to the Pioneer 60incher and the Samsung+Panasonic 58inch TVs. For the size, value for money and picture quality I could not fault it. Got it for $4590 with 5 years warranty. I picked up the Samsung LA-52A650A1F with 5 years warranty for $3490. I did not see the need to get the new 7 series, no difference in picture qualty to me Picked up 2 x Samsung HTBD2T for $900 each also. Overall very happy with the purchase. Getting it delivered and installed next week
suparockin Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 I am seriously amazed when people spend $8K on TVs and only 10% of that on audio. ???
slitko Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 I previewed the samsung system in the city in a closed room and the sound quality was good enough for everyday use and everyone was happy and liked the quality. I was going to get Yamaha or Sony system and set it up but do not have time with new house move and other matters so this will do for now.
