gee...... you are SO DEMANDING !!!

THOUGH it is strange that they've completely forgot about that. I'm sure that the demo WONT have any surround sound. We can't have the demo being louder than any of the clothes stores in a Westfield.

and I've change the rat to ray :)

Miranda Fair - last day today....

NEXT - MELBOURNE :

KNOX CITY - Thursday 30th Oct - Sunday 2nd Nov

WESTFIELD SOUTHLAND - Thursday 6th Nov - Sunday 9th Nov

HIGHPOINT - Thursday 13th Nov - Sunday 16th Nov

Just went to see the DISNEY BLU-RAY display at Miranda Fair.

IMO - Disney is targetting the WRONG market. The Display was set up as a blue castle - with kiddie seats on one side - and a kiddie lie down mat area on the other side (sadly - I didnt see any DTV geeks lying on the floor). One large screen and 2 smaller screens on both sides. OK - I 'get' the fact that High School High and Hannah Montana are BIG... HUGE sellers... but for hidef - I don't think so.

The obvious Disney films showing were to a very disconcerning audience = KIDS. The kids don't care about the picture quality - they were just entranced in the rat from Ratatouiulle. Some of the clips were really poor visual presentations (coming soon type clips) - and the LCDs didn't do much justice. In the end - its just a few screens - a Disney movie or two - and nothing to get you THAT interested - unless you were under 10.

HIDEF AUDIO - forget it !!!

Anyway - the above was my opinion - how about everyone else in Melbourne getting out to one of these sites and talk to the people doing these exhibitions. And post your own opinion on how they are 'marketing' Blu-ray.

EDIT - is there any way of changing the topic heading to include Melbourne now ????

you need to be a senior member before you can edit in situations like this, you will automatically become a senior member at 2,500 posts, but that's a long way away for you, so you may be able to PM Caniffe and ask if he'll change it for you, I suggest you ask to just get rid of the "Sydney Locations" part instead of changing it to "Melbourne Locations", otherwise you'd have to PM Caniffe every time the location changes.

Peter "the shill" Blasina.

How does he sleep at night?

I remember when he was hawking the ps3 at launch for $999, "value at double the price" he gushed.

Oh look, here he is in the background of this photo, thinking "it's just too easy".

Peter Blasina is an arsehole and Im surprised some forum members would even comtemplate being within 50 metres of this gobshite, unless their intention is to stone the git to death.

Mark,

If this roadshow ever gets to Perth, I presume we can put you down as a no ? :D

BTW I agree, whenever I see him on TV I can't dive for the remote & change channels quick enough.

NEXT - MELBOURNE :

KNOX CITY - Thursday 30th Oct - Sunday 2nd Nov

Anyone from this area in Melbourne should 'check this out' and report what they think of Disney's Blu-ray advertising of Blu-ray

(note - I have zero to do with this demo - I've just been reading so many posts for months about having the distributors doing some promotion - well here it is in your area - go out and see what you think about it !! You want Blu-ray to 'succeed' - well go - and speak to the people there - and let us know here what you thought of the display)

Well, I went this morning to the Knox City display, and although it looks good, was a little disappointed with their lack of knowledge. The gadget guy was there, but I walked up with my dad (he wants to get into blu ray so I took him along). They said are you familiar with blu-ray? I said I was, but my dad wasn't. The lady said that "You'd be better to explain it than I am, but if you have any questions ask the gadget guy- cos he knows all the technical stuff."

Very disappointed with this- why would you have people there, that don't know zilch about blu-ray? And the gadget guy is only there on Saturday from 11-1, so what happens on Thursday, Friday and Sunday when there is no gadget guy and people start asking questions? They were promoting Cars and Sleeping Beauty on the TV's, no sign of High School Musical (thank GOD!!!) except for in the brochures.

You've hit the nail on the head! It's a personal gripe of mine! Whenever I go into a JB, Harvey Norman, etc, I feel like I'm talking to a retarded person (technologically retarded)! :angry2:

It's so annoying! And then what makes it worse is they realise they are over their head, so they start talking out the butt! I had one salesman tell me that "Profile 1, 1.1, 2.0" all refers to computer language and has nothing to do with Home Theatre and that I don't need to worry about it when it comes to BluRay! Moron!

Posted
I would love it if some "real" technophile went and asked him a question and he couldnt answer it.

haha that would be hilarious! that guy is such a wanker!

Ditto at Parramatta. There were several screens showing kids movies - kids sitting cross legged in front of the screens so you had to tiptoe through the kids to get even close and then there were 3 girls dressed in Disney uniforms who knew nothing...nothing at all. Complete waste of time and money. Their display ended up targetting the wrong audience and I wouldn't think would have got them any sales.

It would have been a golden opportunity for any company selling Plasma's, LCD's or Blu-ray players as well as Disney.

cheers,

Lisa

Well I attended this display back when it was in Parramatta Westfields. I entered the competition they had there. I have nothing bad to say about the setup at all because today I was driving home from work and I get a call from a young lass who informs me that low and behold, I won it! LOL. Could of knocked me over with a feather. I quickly pulled over and took it all in. I have won;

- 1 x Panasonic HDTV TH-42PZ800A (42” Full HD TV) value at RRP $2,899

- 1 x Panasonic Blu-ray™ Player XW300 valued at RRP $1,329

- A selection of three Disney Blu-ray™ movies, valued at RRP $49.95 each

The total prize pool is valued at $4,377.85 (GST inclusive).

haha, I was amazed. Got home and told the wife, and she thought I was making it up. hehe.

I've had a look at the products online, and I'm confused. I cannot find a Panasonic Blu Ray player named XW300. There is a HD Twin Tuner model XW300, but no sign of a blu ray player. Anyone heard of that particular model?

Well my Plasma and "Blu-ray" player that i won have turned up. The TV is awesome, loving the blacks on Plasma, after having an LCD for so long. Problem was with the player. It was the XW300 which came, which is a HD Twin Tuner DVD player/recorder. Still worth $900 or so from JB, but I was really looking forward to a BD player. I've contacted them, and they are looking into it. Strange that they run a Blu-ray competition, and the prize they give is not Blu-ray.

Posted

You're right it is strange, probably the work of some marketing guy with no real knowledge of the products other than their dollar value. Be nice if they stumped up a BD35 for you.

Posted

Yeh, I was thinking if they offer a BD35 and want to take the other one back, I'd politely decline. Be happier keeping the recorder, and picking up a cheap BD player. I actually suggested the one that should of came was the BD recorder, XW500. Here's hoping.
