SDL Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 A couple of studios would probably be a bit worried about taking the reports home to mum and dad Fox to me is a major disappointment given the movies they have available from their catalogue and the quality of some they have released. Not really sure I agree with Sony getting an A above Disney, or even Paramount for that matter who have come back well. I can't comment too much on Universal as I have nearly all their titles on HD DVD so haven't been buying them again on Blu-Ray. I'm suprised WB were rated so well given the comments, of which most I agree, they have been half hearted it appears to me, in their efforts in creating very good BD.
tonyjg Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Fox to me is a major disappointment given the movies they have available from their catalogue and the quality of some they have released. But FOX were a big disappointment on SDDVD - sub par releases and lack of anamorphic enhancement for a long long time (yes... I've thrown away many a R1 DVD with non 16x9... Die Hard, Something About Mary, X Files......... and dare we mention THE ABYSS !!) Added - they should score a D... no.. Z for the region coding, lack of extras, and high prices.

AndrewW Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women" If you are going to quote one of the greatest movies of all time, at least get the quote right
the_wonderchild Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Was surprised Disney/Buena Vista got a B, but when its alluded to that these are almost 'interim' reports, then i can see why it will be an A by year's end.

momaw Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 ...I'm suprised WB were rated so well... Warners are a mixed bag. Initially their releases had lackluster audio (on blu in any case), but seriously, the best High Definition release to date in terms of quality, quantity, price, packaging and extras is without a doubt Blade Runner from Warners.

True enough re Blade Runner and it is still probably the best HD DVD set I have, but too many of their releases IMO smack of not taking the time and just trying to get discs on shelves as they know punters will buy anything they can get their hands on.

Other than the joke of Speed Racer with no lossless audio (but the best pic quality to date on any release - imo), are there any recent examples of poor releases from warner?

A little bit off topic but Warners were the clowns who used a Beyond Thunderdome publicity shot for the cover of their Mad Max 2 DVD release and they've never given it the special edition treatment it's begging for either.
ajm1503559545 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 If you are going to quote one of the greatest movies of all time, at least get the quote right It was actually taken from a book about Genghis Kahn and later used in the movie. You're right though, the word is "their" not "the" Pedantic. me? Ok, maybe a little.

This is a 2008 studio report and many of the Blu-Ray releases included poor audio tracks given the space available. They have not upgraded on the HD DVD's and have been reasonably weak on audio overall for a good chunk of their releases.
djOS Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 The 640kbps DD-AC3 soundtracks give me the sh|ts the most!! 2nd is excessive DNR and 3rd is excessive film grain!
