franin Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Has anyone got one of these units? It says it can plug in more than one Sub but i can't see how. i want to be able to plug in 2 Subs and control them individually. Does that mean i have to get 2 units?
corza13 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Hi Franin, yes, if you want to control individually, you need two. Otherwise it gives the one equalized signal to multiple outputs.
MACCA350 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I would suggest not adjusting them individually. cheers
Spearmint Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I would suggest not adjusting them individually.cheers Interesting comment Macca I’d be interested in reading your thoughts as to why to not adjust the subs individually.
lucmor444 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I think there is a recent posting on the F113 (or could have been the F112) post in avsforums that indicated you can arrange your f112 into a master and slave configuration and then the SMS can apply the equalisation to the combined output of the 2 subs.

Guest Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 How many of you use one? and how well does Auto Eq work? Do most of you use the manual option? And what exactly is stacking? Sorry for the questions guys just want know as much as I can before i receive it. Oh one more thing I had my subs calibrated by a JL audio sound engineer who said it was in perfect position and the pahse is perfect. Can I use my auto eq with those settings?
MACCA350 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Have you contacted Andrew since you've had the two subs? cheers

Are you running audessey after the HAA cal Franin ? found this on the subject from audessey Chris http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/3425126-post157.html Seem to recall someone saying multi xt-pro being upgraded to below 20hz or at least going deeper than it used too?? Wavetrain would know
betty boop Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I would suggest not adjusting them individually.cheers interestingly velodyne with dd subs that have the sms eq built in also suggest to daisy chain them as master & slave & eq together. that's mainly for ht though for 2ch duties & if running stereo subs as spearmint does, can see the need to eq individually. franin if you considering getting 2sms unit might be better looking to buy from the us. where can get 2 for the price of one here.
joz Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Better be quick before the $$ falls any further though...

There are other reasons for equalising together, and it has to do with the way that two subwoofers interact together and with the room acoustics, these are the same whether it is multi channel or 2 channelcheers

I'm intrigued by these statements as they differ from my own experiences both with HT subs and stereo subs.

I use the built in version that's in my velo dd sub. I still think for capabilty & useability its unsurpassed. unlike the jl audio aro system it doesn't just deal with one issue. and allows full manual control or auto config depending on needs.
corza13 Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Franin, This is a must read, pretty much gives you everything you will need. It's called the Outlaw Audio guide the SMS-1. It is on Outlaw Audio's website if this link doesn't work. http://pdf.outlawaudio.com/outlaw/docs/sms1guide.pdf The manual EQ is very easy and gives better results than the Auto EQ. It is an amazingly straight forward user interface. With regards to stacking, a general rule is don't apply boost too close together on the frequency range ie. within 6-8 Hz of each other. I concentrated on cutting back peaks more than boosting, as you can't really replace sound that isn't there, but it is easier to take away unwanted sound at certain frequencies. For example, my graph is within 4 db from 21HZ - 80HZ in my room after equalisation and I have no more than +2 db I have aded to any frequency point. Hope that all makes sense. I would say the best thing that happens from using the SMS-1 is that you can get a seemless blend from main speakers to Sub.

Wavetrain would know good discussion has happened on this over on avs in both the official audyssey thread and the official velodyne thread. both chris from audyssey & curtc from velodyne suggest to utilise eq from the velodyne dd's or the sms to sort out any major issues and run audyssey on top of it. I believe using the subs eq to sort out major issues frees up audyssey s resources to work on rest of freq spectrum. its what i'm doing and getting great results with the denon avp using audyssey & the velo dd15 with its built in sms eq. the sms eq is certainly very effective, and audyssey defintly on top of that takes to whole another level. franin I too would suggest maybe consider speaking to andrew from haa. with your dedicated room appears you have some flexibility in positioning that in itself with perhaps treatments might be able to get best for bass. and then without any major issues just audyssey in the avp might be good enough on its own without looking at anything else
