Looking to build 5.1 setup.

Not sure which sub to go for - Krix Seismix 1 or Seismix 3?

Room size = 5m * 3.25m *2.5m high.

Main use movies & some CD's.

If physical size of the sub is not a big issue, the Seismix 3.

It has the same amp module, the same driver and should be the same price. It's just a larger enclosure which lets it run down slightly lower.

As I understand it, the idea of the Seismix 1 is that it's smaller to fit in cabinets easier.

There is the rub...My TV cabinet will only fit the Seismix 1.

<_<

Of course I could put the sub anywhere in the room (in theory).

But given my small-ish(?) lounge room, will the Seismix 1 be enough anyway?

Will the Seismix 3 sound too big for the room?

Well the larger enclosure lets it run to 22Hz instead of 24Hz although the Seismix 1 will go down that low it will just have dropped output a bit further.

Also, the Seismix 1 is 2dB down compared to the Seismix 3. Non issue there I think. You'd struggle to hear that 2dB difference and even then that's ear damaging loud.

I'm not sure about it sounding too big. Just turn it down I guess. I'd be a bit wary of putting a sub in a cabinet anyway. Could end up quite boomy and/or rattle things around a lot.

I'd probably say it would make little difference for an average home theatre.

why are these the only two options???

I've decided on Krix kit for the rest of the system so want to try stick with the same brand sub to drive home a good price.

Am open to suggestions on other options tho.

Good choice by the way, between the 1 and 3. Krix has made the price the same, so it all depends on which sub-woofer fits your living space better.

Since you have decided on Krix for the rest of your system (and you won't regret it), it is best to have a sub-woofer of the same brand. It is not as essential for a sub-woofer to 'match' the rest of the loudspeakers, but there is something nice about having all speakers of the same brand.

You will be happy with either the 1 or the 3, so I think whichever is more practicable for you will be better. Like shonky, I am not too sure about putting a sub-woofer in an enclosed place, but I believe the 1 was designed with this in mind, so I am sure Krix has done their homework and knows what they are doing.

Cheers for that dantan.

I might give the guys at Krix a call to see what their thoughts are (web site gives no real guidence).

Does anyone on this forum have any experience with the Seismix 1 at all?

No worries, mate. Yes, give Grant Badesso at Krix a call. He is extremely helpful.
