flashman12071503561286 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) Just noticed that Panasonic have on their Website a new model 50PZ80A (as well as 50PX80A, 50PZ800A and 50PZ850A). Now I know that they may be pulling the 50PZ800A so is this the replacement? And Why? It must be because the 50PZ800A is too damn close to the 50PZ850A (and some would say better). The only differences I can see are 1 less HDMI port, different PC-In and a slightly different A/V arrangement.... (Oh and a slightly less RRP) Anyone know more about this? MickB...... Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Running a comparison on the Panasonic web site shows the following differences between the 50Z800 and 50Z80 and the 42Z800 and 42Z80: Number HDMI Ports - 2 on 80's, 3 on the 800's Dimensions - 80's slightly lighter, higher, thicker, not as wide Different stereo systems Maybe some changes to Picture Quality improvement Functions, but this may just be a name change Slightly differnt Picture modes Price

Ratiotee Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Anyone even seen a PZ80A in the flesh? I saw PZ80A last Sat in HN. NH claimed its exclusive to them by Panny. since they were not side by side showing different material, its hard to tell if its the same PQ. got quoted $2500/1yr. Not so confident with HN exclusive products, i might still go for 800A, anyone there bought for a good price wanna share?

Why would anyone pay $2500 for it when you can get a higher spec 800A for the same money (apparantly)
Ratiotee Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Why would anyone pay $2500 for it when you can get a higher spec 800A for the same money (apparantly) there are lots of people say they bought or get quoted 800A for $2500, unfortunately i shopped around last weekends it seems no one is offering below $2600. At least please let us know which store you bought from or scan the receipt...

As I posted earlier though JB online had the 800A for $2423, untill they pulled it at around 5pm EST and others have posted receipts in the HDTV price wiki

Webprice also has them 42PZ80 for $1,999 and 50PZ80 for $2,599. I think the HN rep is telling porkies about them being exclusive to HN. Webprice - Panasonic

It looks like one, lists "fullHD" ,2 HDMI ,and is a "new release" Unless they are using the wrong picture, and the 2 HDMI is not a mistake,it's the 50PZ80 for sure. So much for HN exclusive.
max p Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 They have the 50PZ80A for $2248 at Domayne. Seemed that there was a bit of negotiation still left in that price. Was gonna give them my best offer before I noticed the 'Made in China' sticker on the back. That put me right off. Pity as it comes a close 2nd to a Pioneer in my mind. Just wished it was as aesthetically pleasing as a Samsung. Is 'Made in China' such a bad thing?

smokenz Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 i havn't seen this tv compared to the 800, but side by side to the px80 the tv's are pretty much identical except for the amount of pixels. where as i have seen px80 next to pz800 before and the pz800 also appeared to have a better image processor with teh signal it was being fed. has anyone compared PX80 to PZ80 to see what other differences there are? as yeah they look identical, ecept you can see 1080p vs 720p pixels up close, when both set to the same default preset settings of standard or whatever it was.

ageha Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I think the 850 is made in Japan but it's much more expensive. I saw the TH-50PZ800A and the TH-50PZ80A side by side last night and I cannot see any differences in PQ. Do both models offer the same calibration options?
ageha Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Apparently the differences are quite obvious. I just saw the 'VIERA 2008/2009 Product Line Up' pdf from the Oz Panasonic page and it states the Z80 don't have "Intelligent Frame Creation" called 100Hz Motion Picture Pro 2 and "24p Real Cinema" is also missing. Both are 800 and 850 only. I wonder what the "Deep Color" feature on the 850 is...

From what I've read in other threads (don't ask me exactly which) the "Intelligent Frame Creation" is not such a big deal. Many say they are turning it off - the picture is better without it. Other differences b/w the PZ80A and the PZ800A are: - Only 2 HDMI inputs on the 80 and 3 on the 800 - different "Stereo"setup" - "NICAM-B/G German(A2)" on 80A and "PAL 2CS Stereo" on 800A -- ?? - 80A includes "Picture noise reduction"and 800A does not. This iinfo is available at the Panasonic site. http://panasonic.com.au/products/category.cfm?objectID=4848 Has anyone seen good prices on either of these units in Melbourne? Nobody seems to have them in stock at the moment. thedonkee

funkybits Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 (edited) Howdy 24p Real Cinema on the 800 is supposedly technically superior to the poverty pack 24p film playback mode on the 80. From what I have read on these forums most owners seem to be reporting that they don't use the 24p Real Cinema mode as it can sometimes yield weird results on fast pans etc. I personally like the 3D effect it gives and that it has the option of being switched off. I saw the PZ80 & PZ800 next to each other playing Casino Royale on Blu-Ray and the 800 looked much nicer with greater depth when the 24p mode was on (almost 3d like) and I saw no stutter when the credits were rolling (unlike the PX & PZ which did stutter) As mentioned previously, the 800 also has the following benefits over the 80 - Swivel Stand - Front HDMI Input (I find it weird that the lower PX80 has a front HDMI but not the PZ80) The PZ800a seems to see to sell for around $300 more than the PZ80 which equates to a 15% premium. Sometimes there's too much choice! Edited January 3, 2009 by funkybits
michaelmac Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Thanks for that think I'll go the 800 when stock turns up
holden caulfield Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I know most readers will know about this BluRay DVD offer, but seeing as there is a thread for these sets, may as well post the link in here as well. http://bonusbluray.com.au/ If anyone has any recent pricing on the 42PZ80A that would be great!
