172 Flyer Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Can anyone confirm if it's possible to stream Foxtel connected to a P2 through to H1?
DaveMews Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 unless there has been some new firmware changes that have added this in recently, beyonwiz units dont stream live. The ability for H1 to access a P1/2/S1 is accessing recordings of the drive and streaming them across ethernet. There is no "live stream" functionality

There is no "live stream" functionality Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the S1/P1 has commenced recording, isn't the S1 able to stream that recording despite it not being complete? If so, then you are effectively streaming live (ok maybe 30 seconds or so behind).

Streaming HD from an S1/P1/P2 to another Beyonwiz generally doesn't work very well if there's much going on on the Beyonwiz being used as a server.

This might apply if you are attempting to stream from a S1 using wireless (as wireless puts more load on the S1's processor). I have no problem streaming HD over ethernet. However, it might be different with a P2 or LiDiC trying to convert foxtel analogue, record and stream all at the same time.

I have P2 and S1 connected by ethernet and cannot get reliable HD streaming unless the "server device" is doing nothing else, other than being accessed by the other client device.

I have no problem streaming HD over ethernet. As I said, it depends on just what the Beyonwiz server is doing at the time. Here are the results of some tests I did in June. I run the video outputs of my S1 and H1 at 720p (to match my screen resolution). It's possible that if you run at 1080i the performance may be worse. I need to re-do the tests, but they are a bit time-consuming, and I haven't don them yet for the current firmware. Changes in the network throttling algorithms between formware releases makes for fairly variable results. There were certainly reports on the Beyonwiz forum from people who were having even worse HD streaming performance than what I saw in my tests. That's what led me to suspect that 1080i rather than 720p output may be a cause of the difference. My testing was all done with a wired Ethernet connection.
