paulfx Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 i got 1 lcd and 1 plasme sharing the same wall in 2 rooms, so was thinking is there a pvr that has 2 hdmi outputs(independant) so i only purchase 1 unit to share with 2 tvs. been looking around and can only find units with 1 output. any suggestions.......... or i am faced with buying 2 units or resort to 1 unit and 2 cables and plug and unplug each tv as needed..
Shonky* Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) You'll never find a PVR with two HDMI outputs. You might be able to use one panel with HDMI and the other with component. You'd need to check both outputs work at the same time though. The other simple alternative is a 1 to 2 HDMI box. 1 input, 2 simultaneous outputs. e.g. http://www.zantech.com.au/splitter/hdmi.html http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20distributi...202%20port.html I'm pretty sure that a user here (foxtail) is getting one in soon too for his store. http://www.ezyhd.com Edited September 29, 2008 by Shonky*

TiVo will also output HDMI / Component simultaneously.
twitch1503562349 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Buying a Beyonwiz P1 + a H1 would provide a lot less headaches than trying to share 1 PVR between 2 displays. The H1 can stream recordings direct from the P1 (as well as make it's own on an external drive).
graboy Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I dont know about simultaneous output paul but I feed my pana dmr xw300's hdmi and component to 2 seperate displays as Shonky says I am interested in your reply cwt. I am considering a DMR XW300 and want to do the same as Paul but using your method. I was put off by page 85 of the manual where it says - AV1 Output Set according to the terminal of the connected TV. Select “Video” or “S Video” for component output (progressive output). If this unit is connected with an HDMI cable, you cannot select “RGB 1” or “RGB 2”. I also rang Panasonic and they confirmed. I want to use HDMI to my main tv and feed to another room via component. Can I do this?
pgdownload Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 The unit has dedicated Component output plugs (Just above the AV1 plugs which are used for Video and Svideo). If you don't have HDMI then you have the option of outputting a RGB from the component plugs If you do have HDMI plugged in then this is not and option. You set AV1 to VIDEO or SVIDEO and the component plugs will output a COMPONENT signal. So this means you can have HDMI signal on one cable and component on the component cable. That would make it an expensive but nice sounding PVR. I did explicitly say "PVR" and suggested the much cheaper HDMI splitter method. Marantz 7002 can't output simultaneously anyway (not sure about 8002). Denon 4308 can.
50mxe20 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 I did explicitly say "PVR" So you did! I read AVR. Eyesight must be failing.
paulfx Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 thanks for the great advice from you all, so atm optoins are splitter, or high end units which either have 2 hdmi outputs or a hdmi and component output at same time or 2 seperate units. so at present no single unit has 2 different signals(different channels) out to 2 tv's. the missus and i cant agree to watch the same shows.

Well you moved the goal posts big time with that statement No PVR will play two different programs at once. No PVRs have 2 HDMI outputs. Lyle was talking about a $2-3k+ AVRs Two PVRs (his and hers?) is the option there.

MythTV can require significant PC experience to get running. Essentially you're talking two PCs then. A PC running Windows MCE (Media Centre Edition) can do this also using an Xbox as a media extender. Both are probably blowing your budget totally. I built a cheapest possible MythTV box for about $450. You'd need another ~$400 for an extender.
