Dr Dee Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 Hi guys, I have a problem with my 5000 PVRt MP I can't figure. Before I go on I'll admit to being a person who reads a manual on a 'need to know' basis only. I've had this machine for about 8 months with only one major problem - it would randomly freeze forcing me to turn it off and on again (sometimes needing to totally disconnect from the GPO). After this it would go through "Verifying Files" and, more often than not, totally wipe all recorded services whether I answered 'Yes' to formatting or not. From the beginning I was prerecording using EPG, but all of a sudden this stopped working. Soooo I read the manual to find out that I was using ICE without even knowing what the hell it was AND that it ceased after the first six months (I'm still trying to work out how they do this??) I was a bit miffed at this but, having established that since ICE had been withdrawn the machine had not frozen at all when it was a 'given' to do so once or twice a fortnight prevously, was a bonus. So.... I once again delved into the manual to travel to a world I hadn't been before - Timer Recording. Had no problem following the instructions - Programs listed on the Timer Setting screen ready to be captured. Anticipated time comes, anticipated time goes - anticipated program disappears from Timer Setting but doesn't appear on Recorded Services - it won't work I revisited the manual and convinced myself that I was indeed doing it right - obviously not Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Dr Dee
pgdownload Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 You'll have had to set up a download program on your PC and have an external box (icebox?) connected to the Toppy, at 6 months you also probably had to pay ICETV for there service (they generally give away a few months free trial with every Toppy). Presumably you were sort of aware you did all that (or authorised someone else to) without reading a manual? If you like ICE then www.icetv.com.au and you can easily buy more subscriptions. Otherwise, all I can suggest is make sure your time is set correctly and double check your timers are set correctly - check they are recording the right channel and at the right date etc. Do some test ones to try out the system. Hi Peter, there was no box, there's the PVR connected to the TV (and connected by USB to my PC if and when I want to burn a prog. According to the manual I got 6 months free of ICE but I didn't realise that til it stopped allowing me to record using the program guide (I never authorised anybody to do anything). So that's when I decided to use timer record, without success. Otherwise, all I can suggest is make sure your time is set correctly and double check your timers are set correctly - check they are recording the right channel and at the right date etc. Do some test ones to try out the system. I will check all that again but I can't see anything I missed (I even had to change the system time because it was out by a mile). I've attempted about 5 different progs/channels with the same result telling me "Reserving is OK". Progs are then listed in the "Timer Setting" box but then disappear when the time/date has arrived as if the recorder has done its job, but they don't turn up in the "Recorded Services" department ie- they haven't been recorded. CRAP! - disregard all of the above, I just tried again while I was sitting here typing this and the damned thing worked this time but I didn't do anything different..... Regards, Den
pgdownload Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I wouldn't jump too fast to its all fixed. I'd check if you're running any TAPs inadvertantly (you're probably still running the ICE TAP). To do this hit EXIT while whatching TV and you might get a TAP menu on screen - select NEXT TAP to cycle through those you have running. Sounds like the time is working. Set WEEKLY timers rather than one ONCE ONLY timers as these don't disappear after firing - they just reset to next week. The thing to double check on a failed timer is the LCN (channel) it is set to. Also check your hard drive space - perhaps you've run out of space? Regards Peter Gillespie

Regards Peter Gillespie Hey Peter, I haven't loaded any TAPs and it seems to working fine now - even a weeknightly I entered on friday started tonight OK. I dunno what happened - maybe some sort of glitch or something. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know if it fails again. Thanks for your help, Regards, Den
tonymy01 Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 You might have had the "fail to wake from standby bug" which is easily fixed with a firmware patch. You may also have experienced the "why the heck hasn't the september 06 f/w started my timer recording" bug which that f/w is renowned for. Regards
