alanh Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 All, The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy and the Australian Communications and Media Authority have catagorised these transmitters as being in Remote WA. They should be in SW WA. The Shire of Murray has had to finance TV repeaters for ABC, SBS, GWN & WIN for many years. The ABC & SBS have installed Digital TV in Narrogin (population 829) at least 2 years ago. Why doesn't Mandurah/Pinjarra have repeaters with a population of well in excess of 67,000 When digital TV repeaters are installed in Pinjarra, no antenna modifications will be required to existing users of the above analog signals. The types using the Pinjarra translators are either phased arrays (look like a barbeque plate grid) facing east, or an all narrow antenna which is longer than it is wide pointed east. Perth antennas are much wider and usually are a stepped taper pointed north. The signals from this set of translators will be much more reliable than the Perth digital signals. Steery Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) To my knowledge, the pinjarra transmittor site was organised by the peel development comission, with the co-operation of the murray shire. Even though the main population this site is serviceing is in Mandurah, the Mandurah council was not involved (to the best of my knowledge anyway) in the pinjarra transmission site, so for mandurah residents to start sending complaints to the mandurah council would be pretty much a waste of time. Better off sending them to the peel development comission, which is funded by the state goverment. Steery Edited October 5, 2008 by Steery
alanh Posted October 5, 2008 Author Posted October 5, 2008 Steery, Are you going to contact the Peel Development Commission so that they can pressure the broadcasters to put their own translators on Turner Hill? AlanH
alanh Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 All, SBS digital is proposed to start in March next year on channel 55 vertically polarised. This will require the same antenna pointed at Turner Hill, Pinjarra as is used now. AlanH
alanh Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 All, The ABC digital will start in March next year on channel 58 vertically polarised. So those with their narrow antennas pointing east will be able to get all ABC & SBS digital programs then. The commercials will have to wait until the Mt Lennard (for the South West) transmitters start, date unknown. AlanH
IanD1503559705 Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Have digital broadcasts begun yet from the Pinjarra transmitter? Any updates on when in March it might become available? I have a relative in Mandurah who might benefit from obtaining ABC and SBS digital from Pinjarra instead of Perth.
alanh Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Ian, According to the station websites, SBS is this month and ABC is next month. It is likely to be very close together.\ AlanH
