For starters thats half the games in HD.

Thats 10 more then we have ever had.

Aside from that im sure there are going to be licensing restrictions on what can be shown here for whatever reason

Then there is the cost in transmitting the program across the fibre link between here and the USA.

We live in an isolated country, things are not as economically viable when compared to the usa

Huh how exactly is there a difference in cost between showing basketball in HD or another sport in HD on the fibre link?? Its a dedicated link.

Basketball isn't that popular here... I wish we had ESPN2 and they could have more room for these sports, but untill then don't expect that much more coverage.
You mean NBL isnt popular here,

NBA is a worldwide success, It ranks high up there with the biggest soccer leagues in the world, In this country its just shafted aside especially on the eastcoast of australia. I run a US sport store online in syd and I sell NBA jerseys like crazy and most my customers are from WA, SA and Vic. I really hope fox sports aust will be showing the TNT double header on fridays.

I agree, 10 games in HD is better than 0 games in HD.

I just wish ESPN would ditch the pointless interuptions during the replays that result in them having to move ahead in the broadcast due to time constraints. If they would stop doing the strongest man updates or the on this day update every 10 minutes and just kept with the actual program there would not be the neeed to move ahead due to time constraints.

I love the monday night replay on fox sports of the nfl where they only break at the end of each quarter. ESPN should edit their programs to do the same thing for the replays of NBA, MLB, NFL etc.

I'm guessing they do that so they don't have to edit a different version for Australia with less ad breaks in it. I'm thinking ESPN HD Australia wouldn't have that bigger internal budget within ESPN.

bring it on. how many games do u want? u can always d/l if 2 games a week isn't enough! i'm just stoked to have a HD iQ and watch the NBA in my own time...and in HD - too good!

p.s. maybe when the new sat goes up more HD content will be available.

I would try sending them an email. They've responded to me in the past when I've had various questions. Any games in HD is a welcome move. I'd say now that Fox Sports won't be doing any games in HD, that's if it's anything like their NFL coverage.

my relatives from the states, canada and the philippines told me, it's embarrassing

how a 3rd world country like the philippines have a better pay tv that australia.

i said at least we have a better health care system than them. :P

but they do have a point. we're so far behind when it comes to pay tv and we're

paying too much.

Any one notice the ESPN is showing NBA Europe live tour pre season, This morning they showed Nets Vs Heat Live plus next week pre season NBA China Games, I just hope they will show all events, Looks like the guides are NOT updated once again.

Good to see NBA on cable TV just hope they gonna show more in the actual NBA season when it counts the most !

NBA TV

NFL TV

i would gladly pay. as long as it's commercial free.

They aren't even commercial free in the states, as if they will be commercial free here.

So wish ESPN was screening Christmas Day NBA (26th here). Suns/Spurs and Celtics/Lakers. Two awesome matchups but we wont see them. Not sure why, ESPN HD has been getting feeds from ABC HD all year for College Football.

Yeah it blows big time. And only one Suns game being shown in January according to the guide.

At least ILP (International League Pass) has been playing nice lately. Still get some streaming issues but it has greatly improved over the past few weeks.

So planning to catch both those games later in the week albeit at slightly better than Youtube PQ.

BroadBanD I have spent plenty of time in the USA, UK and Philippines in the last 18 months - the UK and USA have similar Pay TV set-ups to Foxtel, mainly because the largest providers in those two countries, BSkyB (UK) and DirecTV (USA) are affiliated with News Corp (who are part-owners of Foxtel) to the point where the on-screen-display of BSkyB is identical to Foxtel (or is that vice-versa?). Anywho, the set-up is very similar and the UK and USA only have slightly more channels overall (excluding area-specific channels like those of professional sporting teams like SNY, YES, etc in New York, USA), but the main difference is the price and especially in the USA, the amount of HD channels. Foxtel has a measly FIVE HD channels, whereas DirecTV is on about 130 and counting - that is just a ridiculous difference!

Now to something that irks me :angry2: - Pay TV programming in the Philippines. Having been born in the Philippines and spending a bit of time there every year - and also my Dad spending time here and over there - Filo locals (and my Dad) always say that the pay TV service there is no comparison to here - they are correct but in the reverse manner; the cable and FTA TV infrastructure there is a joke! I mean, they barely have digital channels set-up yet for FTA stations! And as for the cable, it's still the old-school manner depicted on Seinfeld and The Simpsons where anyone can get free/illegal cable as you can just piggy-back one or a hundred extra connections depending on how many splitters you have available to you - no set-top units/boxes and no encryption cards. That and just about every town has their own cable TV provider and the services are TOO CHEAP - which sounds all a bit too easy in my opinion. As a result, the quality is absolute rubbish, a lot of the channels look like you're trying to tune into SBS from a rabbit ear antenna in the Australian outback! And ALL THE EXTRA CHANNELS they talk about - half of them are completely useless as they're from other Asian countries - similar to having TARBS back when it existed here! They do have Basketball TV though (and Bianca King on TV), so I'll give them that one :winky:

I tried the ILP late last year and it was stopping so much it was unwatchable.

Has anyone used this service lately? Is is better streaming than it was before?

I connect to my adsl exchange at 21MB down, and 1MB up, and certainly wasn't expecting games to stream as bad as they did.

It's improved a fair way since back then. Like you I have a phat pipe to my place so the problem has definitely been at their end, and they've admitted as much in correspondence I've had with them. They've continued to acknowldege there are issues their Australian clients are experiencing and they are working to resolve the problems, or so they say.

As far as the replays go I would say they are now streaming for me at around a 95% success rate. That is to say that most replays I'm able to watch with either no or very little buffering issues at all. I'm still finding significant problems watching live games. Some games are streaming fine but far too many have issues either with a large chunk or the entire game which sucks dead dogs balls no end. The trend does seem to be on the gradual improve though.

So if you are prepared to watch replays as I am, being at work during to day and wanting to watch them when I get home at night, then you may get value out of ILP. If you really want to watch a lot of live games then I think you might still find it a frustrating affair. There is still also the problem of not being able to tell at what stage the replay is at without first streaming the video. Not ideal if you want to avoid knowing the score beforehand. Apparently ILP are looking to implement a solution here but we'll just have to wait and see on that one.

Bottom line it has been freakin awesome to watch pretty much every single game of my beloved Suns this season as well as all the blockbusters such as the Xmas day games. So it has been well worth it for me but I'm a fairly hardcore fan that will do whatever it takes to see my team play!

With the games are they still on a loop where you have no idea when to tune in? They said they would be putting a schedule in place when I trialled it. That was one of my main issues, switching on a game with 6m to go and having it blown.

Looking at ESPN's guide for Sunday they are showing 5 college games, yet we only get 2 NBA games a week. That's a real kick in the guts.

One of the reasons why im disconnecting on Thursday. 2 Games a week, what BS.

How is 2 NFL games a week ridiculous? The NFL season is also shorter. We all have to live with what we can get. I'd love more NHL but I know we won't get it until we get more Fox and ESPN sports channels.

I have to admit though, this year we did get a lot of college football bowl games (no complaints from me). but that was for 2 weeks and its all over again.

what are our chances of getting another nba game in place of a euro league game or the ridiculous number of nfl games?
