afmartyn Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Had my Mediastar 920 stuff up and not record Dr Who. Recorded news before it and have had this issue a few times where it has not recorded the next show on same channel. Not sure why it does it as even if there was overlap due to error in EPG being a dual channel it should not cause a problem. Anyway can anybody get me a copy of last nights show on a DVD? Willing to make a small contribution to your bank acct for trouble or could pick up around Blackburn suburbs. Thanks Andy
pgdownload Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Toppy's have this same bug - two separate overlapping timers on the same channel will fail. It shouldn't be an issue you're right but it is. The 'solution' is just set a single timer covering both shows or make sure they don't overlap. Regards Peter Gillespie
Robert E Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 The 'solution' is just set a single timer covering both shows ... Or, if different LCNs are available otherwise showing the same content (which they often are for SD programs), set the recordings so one uses one LCN and the other uses the other.
deltanova Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Anyway can anybody get me a copy of last nights show on a DVD? If you've got the bandwidth ... http://www.abc.net.au/iview/ From memory each Dr Who episode is up for about 10 days after it is broadcast.

Thanks everybody have an offer. Just had a look at the iview site and it says the download is only about 200 odd MB which to me seems like it would be quite low quality compared to a PVR recording which for same length is about 1.5-2GB. Also it says you can play it but how do you actually download and save it?

The ABC aren't about to let anyone download their shows.

FMB Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 It is available via BT I wouldn't know about such things. Although I probably should take the time to learn. We've just installed a D-Link DNS-323 NAS server with two 500gb drives as well as upgrading our internet plan to 50gb (25 peak/25 off-peak) and our average download speed is 8,300 kb. We have the capacity to do it, I've just never bothered to figure out how. I should probably go to the right area and ask for guidance (or divine intervention).

A 50GB broadband connection and 1 TB of HDD space is exactly what BT was designed to cure, Once you've figured out how to forward the ports through your router and found the right search engine you'll wonder where all that capacity went
IanD1503559705 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I don't bother with EPGs: just do manual timer settings after checking the ebroadcast online guide. I also add at least 30 minutes before and after commercial stations timings as I have found sometimes they start early or finish late.

I think the ABC require you to download a dedicated player and install? I don't think the SDP (or others) will be useful here.Regards Peter Gillespie
IanD1503559705 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I was able to record one of the Gruen Transfer files on the ABC that didn't have a download link (ie it was just play only). I think I used Replay Media Catcher, but it took a few goes to get it working. The quality of much of the download files is quite poor though. Channel BT, where available, or the genuine broadcast seem to be better bets. I wish the studios didn't delete the downloadable files so quickly from their servers: it's not as if they occupy that much space, given the size and cheapness of todays HDD.

The picture quality of the iView shows is pretty good though so recording it from the sVideo output of the computer may work ok.
