Jesh Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 (edited) I know there is a million threads on this TV, but searching through 148 pages of "lo-fi" pages for a couple receipts doesn't really float my boat. A recent conversation with the 'woman of the house', has created a slight issue... Apparently a 60" is "too big". Its not even the cost thing, apparently its just "too big", it fits easily into the lounge, the original plan up to recently was get the 60PG30FD. But no, thats too big... The original budget was around 5k for the TV and HT system, so I've made a deal with the 'woman of the house', that what we save ON the TV/HT system, we spend on other stuff FOR the TV... i.e Blu-ray player, Wii, an apple tv etc. I assume we can get a fair discount when buying all this at once yeah? Ok, enough bout my life story... What i'm after is a few receipts on the 800a, the more i get off the TV, the better, cos then i get other cool stuff . So if anyone can post receipts then that would be VERY appreciated. I have a mate who works at JB and said he will do his best to match any receipt i bring to him. Thanks Again Edited September 21, 2008 by Jesh
tibbs 1 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Jesh, personally a bit of foot work should get you the info you need....I have just shopped this weekend for the pana 850A and what started out at $3150 best price from JB hifi & then a quick trip (100m walk) to DickSmith where I got down to $2690 for the plasma (all up $3100 with 5 yr war, surge board, coax cable, delivery). The rep at DS gave me the pricing on a card, when I took this back to JB and showed the rep he went off to see the manager....returned some 10min later to tell me that the manager just called several other JB stores and this is the best price presented on that plasma so far. Long story short he couldn't match it and best offer was $3150 from JB. At that point I knew there was no point shopping it further as I was at or close to the bottom price!! I haven't shopped the 800a but I expect you should get around $2400 on the plasma alone! Good Luck.

But no, thats too big... 60" may seem big, but within 1 week you'll be used to the size of it (especially if wall mounted). My brothers have a 60" LG and from 3m viewing range where the lounges are, it aint too big. I haven't shopped the 800a but I expect you should get around $2400 on the plasma alone! From what I have read 50PZ800 is being bought for ~$2500 but usually needs to be bundled with some warranty. But by Xmas time things will be different again no doubt.

suprfast06 Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 I got my 50' Pana 800a with 4 years extra warranty and 2 years interest free plus free delivery/ Belkin surge protector at JB for $3050 (Ticket price for the tv alone was $2542) I originally had my new tv setup against the wall at 2.5m and thought it was huge, but after only a couple of weeks it is now sitting at 2.2m as per the HD viewing distance guidelines. The finer details of HD material looks amazing at this distance. In fact, if I had the extra dosh to spend or the prices were more just, I would of gotten a 60' because of anamorphic widescreen shows.
Owen Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 People get insulted when I suggest a 50” is not a big TV at 3 meters, seems I am not the only one who thinks so. Its not until you have lived with a large TV that you realise just how much bigger you could go without any problem.

MoReBeEr Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Panasonic TH50PZ800A Adelaide - southern part I've been reading this forum for a couple of months & decided today's the day to buy, what with the soon demise of my preferred PZ800A & the rapid slide of the Aussie dollar. Tried Good Guys Colonnades first Advertised price on the TV was in the high 2800's It took a while to catch the eye of a salesman, flashed him my $3500 cash in my wallet, mentioned today, DTV forum, JB $2693 no warranty, Myers (he said "cheap TV's from MYERS ???") He disappeared & came back with " the BEST i can do is knock $20 off the TV & our 5yr warranty is expensive at $430, $440. so $3300 was NOT a good start for the day. Next stop JB's Marion Advertised price $2693 Caught the eye of a young salesgirl, flashed her my $3500 cash, mentioned today, DTV forum, UntitedElectrical.com 5yr warranty $369, GG ripoffs She came back with - $2693 + my UnitedElectrical 5yr warranty $369 = $3062 OR $2650(Cost) + their 5 year warranty $429 = $3079 BETTER, but, i might be back in 5 minutes but i just have to duck into Myers first - Myers Marion Advertised price high $2900's? Young salesman, i've just been into JB's they gave me a good price i don't know if you can beat it? Showed him my own scribbled paper of JB 2650 + 429 or UnitedElectrical $369 He came back with $2590(under cost) + their UntiedElectrical 5yr warranty $399 minus $60 of Myer card vouchers = $2929 DEAL DONE!, i'll be back there in 2 days with the 4-wheeler to pick it up (box 900mm high!) Had a bit of a talk to the Myers salesman after the deal was done - He prefers the 800 to the 850 too, he has his own 800 He has never sold an 850 yet? His boss lets him discount & Myers encourage it to get the deal JB's WERE cheap when they first started I mentioned someone in Adelaide said they got the deal for $2850, he said maybe it was himself on a generous day !?!?, too late, he had my money already. He said that some people had mentioned DTV forum & he might go online to check it out I was happy enough with the $2929 deal & my only receipt was my own written JB quote So just go to a Myers, get to the point , flash them your cash & get a good deal & buy!

My pleasure to get you a good deal. Also guys. alot of stores, especially JB tend to lie about cost price, just to trick people into thinking they have the lowest price. Come into myer marion, and talk to myself and ill bne more than happy to see what i can do for you.... Our displays are rubbish, but we tend to do a good deal.. later peeps -stewart
